Violet Surprise: Lavender Menaces seeks 10-minute plays

Facebook page
located in Chicago

Deadline: February 13, 2020

Sapphics save the day!
Lesbian Visibility Day, that is.
VIOLET SURPRISE: LAVENDER MENACES is a short play festival that showcases Sapphic superheroines.
Whether you transform existing heroines into queeroines or create original sheroes who think girls are super, we invite you to submit stories that champion lesbian characters who are powerful and magical, formidable and visible, capable and -- if you so desire -- cape-able. Your play may be as realistic or fantastic as you wish, and set in the place and time period of your choice, but it must feature gutsy gay gals.
VIOLET SURPRISE: LAVENDER MENACES is curated and produced by Iris Sowlat and Allison Fradkin in collaboration with Otherworld Theatre Company, and will be presented in Chicago April 10-12, 2020.
Guidelines
  • Submissions are open to playwrights who identify as female, trans, or non-binary.
  • Plays can be up to 10 pages and include up to 4 characters.
  • Playwrights may submit 2 scripts for consideration.
Send your scripts in PDF format to allisonfradkin@aol.com with "Violet Surprise" in the subject line. Questions may also be directed to that address.
The deadline for submissions is February 13, 2020.
Playwrights will be notified of our selections by February 28.
