In the case of collaborations, the residency requirement pertains to all authors. All playwrights must be 18 or older.

Playwrights must hold all legal rights to their piece; it may have been previously produced, workshopped, or presented as a reading prior to entry in the competition.

Script Requirements

Length: Every play must be able to be fully performed, including all additional audio sources such as music and other sound effects, in 10-minutes or less.

Structure: Although not a requirement, preferential consideration will be given to plays in one scene and/or a single setting. Must be able to be produced for virtual streaming platforms.

Cast: No more than 2-3 actors and all roles must be for individuals 18 years or older. (More characters are allowed if actors may double.) A list of characters with a brief physical description of each must be included on the Entry Form. This Moment Productions will arrange directors, actors, rehearsal, and handle all editing including production and streaming of the play. Playwrights interested in directing should note that upon submission. This Moment Production, as producer, will have final say and approval of the piece prior to release to public audiences.

Genre: Comedy, drama, mystery, thriller or monologue — but no musicals or plays for children.

Technical Limitation: Play settings should be simple, suitable written for the online streaming platform, requiring very minimal props/costumes and limited technical effects. Our productions look to simplify the stage picture to emphasize the playwright’s work, strong character driven pieces are a must. No use of copyrighted music, logos, or names/franchises.

Format: PDF or Microsoft Word, prepared using standard formatting for a stage play.
We suggest you read “How to format your script” by Sam Graber on the website of The Playwrights’ Center: https://pwcenter.org/playwriting-toolkit/how-format-your-script — a correctly formatted script is easier to read and evaluate. A Word template which you may find helpful is available for download.

Originality: We seek plays that are new, inventive, fresh, and not an adaptation of work by another author. The play may have been workshopped or presented as a reading prior to entry in the competition but must be unpublished and not previously performed before a paying audience. Submission Limit: Three plays per playwright.

Submission Fee: There is no fee for entry. If your play is selected for production, you will be expected to provide a brief (150-word) biography, a JPG high-resolution photo, and a brief synopsis of the play which may be used in marketing and promotion.

Selection: The play selection process begins with evaluation by our team of readers, who will independently score each play according to their assessment of plot, character, dialogue, language, theatricality and their own emotional response. Due to the high volume of entries we are not able to give specific feedback. If your play is selected you will be notified by December 31st, please no inquires.

Play submissions are due by November 30th 2020.

Truckee Community Theater is the only community theater organization in California at present that does a 10-Minute Play Festival. We started this endeavor back in 2017 by selecting 10-minute published plays and a variety of directors to put on a "festival". Now, with the help of writing teacher, Karen Terrey, we partner with her company "Tangled Roots" to help novice and aspiring playwrights to create beautiful 10-minute plays.

Plays are submitted each year and a committee selects the best of the best. In 2019, we received over 40 entries and 15 plays were selected and presented over a two-day festival. In 2021, we plan to grow the even to 4 days with 1 day featuring plays written and directed by our high schools students.

Maison Baldwin Residency

web site

Deadline: December 1, 2020
Saint-Paul de Vence, France

Shortly before James Baldwin passed away, he told close friends in Saint-Paul de Vence that he dreamed of seeing his beloved house made into a writers' colony. This medieval village, with its uncommon light, its majestic mountaintop placement and surrounding countryside, has for centuries attracted artists, architects, alchemists and thinkers, great minds intent on changing the world. Here is where Baldwin wrote some of his most enduring books, including If Beale Street Could Talk, Just Above my Head, and his sole book of poetry, Jimmy's Blues.

Writers in residence are offered a room in the village center to pursue their current creative project. While in residence, they will contribute to the literary culture of Saint Paul de Vence by offering a community event or creative public program.

They are hosted at La Maison Baldwin Residence for Writers, a house in the historic center of St. Paul de Vence located directly across the street from the village church. The home features a 3rd-floor bedroom suite with a sunny terrace overlooking the tiled roofs of the village and the valley beyond.

Residents might also be assigned a charming artist cottage inside a private sculpture garden, made available to the program through a partnership with the city of St. Paul de Vence.

Breakfast and dinner every day is included in the fellowship, as is a $700 travel stipend.

Eligibility and How to Apply

This fellowship is open to emerging writers working in the spirit of James Baldwin. Eligible to apply are poets, playwrights, essayists and fiction writers with no more than one full-length published book, produced film, or professionally staged production (in other words: short films, staged readings, chapbooks and one-act plays don't count).

To apply, send a cover letter, a brief bio and writing sample of ten pages after September 1, 2020 to residency@lamaisonbaldwin.fr with the subject line "2021 Residency Application." In your cover letter, please affirm your status as an emerging writer.

LAKESHORE PLAYERS THEATRE 17th ANNUAL TEN-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS

 web site

Deadline: November 15, 2020

Lakeshore Players Theatre is now accepting submission of 10-minute plays for its 2020-2021 season's contest. The ten winners of the contest will be performed for our 17th Annual Festival, in the spring of 2021. Play submissions will be accepted through November 15, 2020.

ALL PLAYWRIGHTS

Please read the following rules and requirements carefully. Plays not meeting the requirements will be disqualified:

•The play should be approximately ten-minutes in length.

•The play must have no more than five on-stage (speaking or non-speaking) characters.

•You may submit only one play, so send us your best! Please do not make more than one

submission.

•The play should be in a "play format" making it easy for the readers. (We suggest 12-point, easy to

read fonts, such as Times New Roman or Arial)

•The play must be unpublished and unproduced at the time of submission to our contest. We DO

screen for this, so do not send us your play if it has been produced. Staged readings are not

counted as "produced." However, if you have had a staged reading of the play, please let us know

so that we do not accidentally disqualify it.

•Submitting your play to our contest grants Lakeshore Players the right to produce your play in our

annual festival and photograph and/or videotape it for archival purposes if it is chosen as a winner.

HIGH SCHOOL PLAYWRIGHTS

High school playwrights are encouraged to enter. Plays must include a letter from a teacher or school administrator, written on school letterhead, verifying that the play was written during high school, in addition to the guidelines below. If the committee chooses to name a high school entry as a winner, the play will be produced with the other winners in our festival.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:

•The play should have simple technical requirements. There won't be much of a set — a few furniture pieces and a few props only — we only have about one minute in between plays to change scenes

•As a community theatre, we want to appeal to the largest possible audience, therefore plays with excessive offensive language are less likely to be selected - please keep that in consideration.

NEW THIS YEAR! - SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED THROUGH OUR ON-LINE ENTRY FORM or By Email.

Your play must be submitted no later than November 15, 2020 to be eligible for consideration. Please submit all entries through the following form: LPT 17th Annual 10-MPF Entry Form. We would prefer you use this new convenient method of submission. If you are unable to make the on-line entry form work for you, we will also accept submission by way of email this year to 10mpf@lakeshoreplayers.org.

Only plays submitted as outlined below will be accepted:

•You MUST submit two copies of your script. - One copy must contain all contact information on the title page:
• Play title
• Playwright’s name
• Playwright’s mailing address
• Playwright’s phone number
• Playwright’s e-mail address

The other copy MUST BE “BLIND” (neither playwright name nor contact information on any page). The blind copy is VERY IMPORTANT so that our judges may choose plays with absolutely no bias. - Please confirm that your play has not been previously produced or published. - Please confirm that there are no more than five on-stage characters - If you would like, please let us know how you heard about us.

SPECIAL CONTINGENCY FOR 2021 Due to the current public health emergency, Lakeshore Players reserves the right to determine the format in which the 10-Minute Play Festival (10-MPF) will be produced and presented in 2021. We would like to fully produce the plays on stage at the theatre if health guidelines at the time permit. However, we may need to adjust for social distancing or revert to staged reading format. Also depending on health guidelines at the time, it may be feasible to have a live audience or we may choose to record the productions and provide them for limited on-line viewing to our patrons, or we may do both.

In any case, each winning playwright will receive an $80 royalty, a copy of (or link to) the program, a link to any additional photos taken, and a link to a digital recording of their play if made for archival purposes or for presentation to our on-line patrons.

Any questions? Please e-mail Lakeshore Players at 10mpf@lakeshoreplayers.org

The Garden of Voices: a Podcast Theatre Troupe is looking for script submissions

Facebook page

No deadline

We are a new podcast aiming to create theatre in a purely audio format, similar to classic radio shows. We are currently in the rehearsal process for our first two episodes and looking to find more writers interested in getting involved. As this is an ongoing process, there is no deadline.

Plays should be at least 15 minutes, and no more than 1 hour long. They can be on any subject, although scripts that address current issues in society are a plus. You can submit as many plays as you want.

Each play we produce will be performed once in a live event on Zoom prior to being released as an episode across various podcast platforms. Writers whose scripts are chosen will receive 10% of all profits made from their plays.

We can be found primarily through Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/thegardenofvoices) along with Twitter (@tgovpodcast) and Instagram (@thegardenofvoices)

Submissions should be uploaded here in Word or PDF format. You will hear back within a week or two of your submission regarding any next steps.
