The event is made possible by the generous support of the Simons Center, the C. N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the SBU Department of Theatre Arts.

Bringing science and theatre together can provide the inspiration for a play of exceptional artistic merit and lead to exciting new ways of learning about science. We are recruiting Stony Brook University’™s brightest minds to write great plays that make science accessible to a wide audience.

P73 Playwriting Fellowship

web site

The P73 Playwriting Fellowship provides a year of comprehensive support to one early-career playwright who has not received a professional production in New York City (please see eligibility requirements below). Through this program, Page 73 provides artistic and financial resources to this writer as he or she develops one or more new plays of his or her choosing. The P73 Playwriting Fellow receives an unrestricted award of $10,000 and a development budget, managed by Page 73 and the Fellow over the course of the Fellowship year, up to an additional $10,000.

The Fellow is encouraged to think creatively about using Fellowship resources to meet concrete goals that might not otherwise be possible. These goals may include, but are not limited to, development of one or more new plays, assistance in building relationships within the New York City theater community, research, and/or travel. Please note that funds from the P73 Playwriting Fellowship do not cover full-scale productions, nor does Page 73 commit to producing the work of the Fellow. The Fellowship incorporates at least one public presentation by the Fellow. Page 73 also helps the Fellow identify and connect with collaborators, including directors, designers, actors and dramaturgs, for Fellowship projects.

The Fellow is associated with Page 73 for the calendar year, from January 1 to December 31. After being selected, he or she works with Page 73’s staff to develop a plan for the year and establish a timeline for the development work to be done on the new play or plays. The Fellow may also be invited to participate in the Page 73 Summer Residency and, if eligible, Interstate 73 (described below) during the Fellowship year.

If the Fellow is not a New York City resident, he or she must be prepared to travel to New York during the Fellowship year in order to fully engage in the opportunities that the Fellowship provides.

On Monday, March 14th, at 7pm, Producing Artistic Director Michael Walkup and 2015 P73 Playwriting Fellow Nick Gandiello will host our annual Application Information Session. They will discuss our development programs and answer your questions about the application process. Please RSVP here to join us.

The 2017 Page 73 Development Programs Application is due Friday, April 1st, 2016 at 11:59 PM EST.

Once you have submitted your completed application you should see a confirmation screen as well as receive a confirmation email. If you have any questions regarding the online application, please email Management Associate Mike Milov-Cordoba: mike.milov[at]page73[dot]org.

The Relentless Award, established in honor of Philip Seymour Hoffman and his pursuit of truth in the theater, is the largest annual cash prize in American theater awarded to a playwright in recognition of a new play.

What we are looking for:

Plays that are challenging.

Plays that exhibit fearlessness.

Plays that are not mainstream.

The winning playwright will have the option to have the winning play published by the Dramatists Play Service.

The winning playwright will have a week-long residency at SPACE on Ryder Farm, an artist residency program housed on a working organic farm in Brewster, New York. The author can elect to have a director, a dramaturg and actors join him or her while in residence on the farm.

The selected play will have a national roll-out through the Ed Vassallo Relentless Reading Series, established to help bring to life and develop the winning play by presenting a series of staged readings at some of the top theaters across the United States.

When the winning play is selected, three runners-up will also be named.

Radio Theater Project Submissions

web site

Call for Plays That Work Without Visuals

If you've got a script where the story depends on dialogue instead of visuals, The Radio Theatre Project in St. Petersburg FL performs new works written for radio and many stage plays adapted for audio.

Selected plays are performed for a standing-room only crowd in downtown St. Pete, with professional actors on book and a sound effects artist. Recordings are distributed via podcast and writers receive a stipend of $50 when the script is performed.

Short plays are very welcome. Full-length plays will need to be condensed to one hour with an intermission. Stage plays can be submitted as-is for consideration, though if selected some adaptation may be necessary.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR RTP SCRIPTS
  • Plays should have a running time of 50 minutes or less. Brevity is the soul of.
  • Plays longer than 30 minutes will need to be able to be split in two parts with an intermission.
  • Plays that originated as stage, film or prose are fine, but we produce radio theater – works originating in other forms will need to be adapted for radio.
  • The Radio Theatre Project reserves the right to make any edits necessary for length, clarity or FCC regulations. We’ll suggest those to you, if your script is being considered for production.
  • Florida writers and plays with Florida settings and subject matter are always welcome.
  • Send plays for consideration to Jim Wicker, Literary Manager, at jimwicker.actor@gmail.com.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Please include a cover sheet with title, name of author and contact information.
  • On the second page, please include a plot summary and brief bio of the author.
  • Please submit scripts in 12-point type with page numbers in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Think about sound and sound effects.
  • The scripts will be broadcast, so FCC language restrictions apply—no seven deadly words, obscenity, overt sex or graphic bodily functions.
  • Before your script is produced, you will need to put it into radio play format – see guidelines here.

TIPS
  • Any action must be made clear by dialogue and sound effects.
  • Characters should be identified frequently by name, and there can’t be too many characters in the same scene. If characters aren’t part of the conversation, they disappear.
  • Be judicious in your use of narration and monologue, or avoid them altogether. Dialogue is more engaging.

The Lark is accepting applications for the 2016-17 Van Lier New Voices Fellowship program, supported by The New York Community Trust’s Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund.

The Van Lier New Voices Fellowship supports playwrights of color under 30 who demonstrate financial need. During a year-long residency, Fellows will work on multiple artistic projects through an individually-tailored program of Lark play development programs, and form relationships with other theatermakers at various career stages from all parts of the world. The Fellowship includes a cash award of $15,000, plus a $3,000 health insurance allowance, along with access to a wide range of Lark resources, including artistic program participation, financial literacy workshops, office and rehearsal space and staff support.

In the 2016-17 cycle, the Lark will award two Fellowships.

Applications will be accepted from February 9 to April 1, 2016. Selected fellows will be notified by June 1, 2016.

The 2016-17 Fellowship period begins July 1, 2016 and ends June 30, 2017.
Vision

The Van Lier New Voices Fellowship program is a critical component in The Lark’s acclaimed portfolio of fellowships, which includes the PoNY and Jerome New York programs. The portfolio is designed to engage a diverse community of extraordinary playwrights—at various places in their careers—who represent, collectively, a contemporary national vision. The Lark believes that targeted support to early-career playwrights from underrepresented backgrounds is essential to a culture of equity, access and inclusion, and a national theater that represents the vibrancy of our collective cultural voices. Van Lier New Voices Fellows will be in residence at The Lark as part of a community of artists at various career levels from across the country and around the world, gathered to explore and illuminate the most important issues of our time.
Activities

Fellows will:
Work with Lark staff to identify individual artistic goals for the fellowship year, toward generating and developing new plays through a series of Lark programs appropriate to those goals;
Meet, collaborate, engage and work with a community of other professionals in the field, including playwrights, directors, actors, agents, producers and other industry leaders as appropriate;
Participate in and/or observe a variety of Lark’s play development processes, whether on or offsite, including retreats, workshops, readings, etc.;
Receive support for the advancement and advocacy of work generated during the Fellowship year, along with continued access to Lark development programs beyond the fellowship period.
Financial Award

Fellows will receive:
$15,000 fellowship stipend
$3,000 health insurance stipend

Please note that the fellows will receive a Form 1099 in the 2016 and 2017 calendar years and be responsible for their own taxes. Both stipends are taxable.

The festival awards, “The Serlings,” are determined by popular vote, with the author of the winning short play receiving $200. Only audience members who attend all programs are qualified to vote. Writer Guidelines For Studio C Artists One Act Series – “In The Garage”

web site

Studio C Artists is announcing the continuation of its One Act Room Series as part of this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. Each show in the series has revolved around a particular room in a house, building, etc. For 2016, we are pleased to present “In The Garage”. With today’s announcement, we are also putting out the call for writers’ submissions for this show in the Series, which is set to open June 10th and run through the end of July.

Writer Guidelines For Studio C Artists One Act Series – “In The Garage”

Please register your intention to send us a submission ASAP at http://goo.gl/forms/AHOk1TXzbY so that we know how many submissions to expect and can plan accordingly.

Writers should submit one (1) completed One Act play (preferably in PDF format) no later than Friday, March 11th @ 5PM PST.

Please include a logline, a synopsis, and a casting/character breakdown with your submission.

No more than ten (10) plays will be chosen by the One Act Series selection committee.

Each play should be 12 minutes in length, maximum. Any play significantly over the allotted time will be required to be trimmed. Please don’t go by page count, as that can differ depending on writing utility (read aloud for best guess at play length).

All works should be original – having never been produced in Los Angeles before.

2 characters minimum, 4 characters maximum - with a preference of 2 characters if possible. Any play with more than 4 characters will likely not be considered.

We have access to a lot of actors in their 20’s and early 30’s. Please focus on this age range with the roles.

Each one-act play will take place in the same setting, “a garage”. That can be any garage – in a house, apartment, office, auto body shop, etc. Please make this integral to your story – not just secondary (i.e., stories that are just set in a basement, but could take place anywhere, are less likely to be chosen).

Because this is part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival and we need a space that is generic to all using it, so please assume the set will be fairly simple, and consist of a minimal basic garage set. The set dressing will be mostly along the walls, etc. – and will not include much in the way of furnishings. There will be places to sit provided (boxes, cubes, etc.), but do not expect anything more than that to work with.

There is one door available to the set, leading to the backstage area, for cast entrances.

Keep sound and lighting cues to a minimum – if not, we will cut them.

Keep props to a minimum. They must be carried on and off by the actors as they make their entrances/exits.

There will be no real food/drink allowed during the play – if the piece requires eating or drinking it must be pantomimed – so please consider this.

Writers must be available for possible rewrites once the pieces are chosen, prior to rehearsals in May.

Writers are welcome to visit the casting sessions for their piece if chosen (Directors have final say in Cast selections).

Writers are welcome to sit in on any/all rehearsals once they are scheduled (any notes/comments should be given only to the Director – and never directly to the Actors).

Please address all questions, comments, or concerns to the Writers’ Liaison (via contact information below).

Geva Festival of New Theatre

web site

Submission Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to submissions for our Festival of New Theatre, Plays in Progress and general production consideration.

Playwrights with professional representation may have their agents send full manuscripts at any time. Please note that lawyers and law firms do not qualify as professional representation.

To best accommodate our schedule of new play activities, we have an Inquiry Window, during which playwrights who are not working with an agent may send a submission inquiry. The dates of this year’s window are November 1, 2015 – March 31, 2016.

We are thrilled to announce a simpler way to submit your script sample and save a tree at the same time! As of 2015, we are only accepting queries through Submittable. During the Inquiry Window, use the button at the bottom of this page to submit your script.

Before submitting a play for consideration, please look at our production history and at the lists of new plays we have commissioned or produced, as an indication of the kind of work we are likely to produce.

Please do not send us the first draft of a play. Due to the number of scripts we receive, we can only read any play one time, so make sure you are sending us your best work. Plays for consideration in our play development series must not have had more than one production at another theatre.

To have your play considered, submit the following:
  • A cover letter introducing yourself, with your full contact information.
  • Your creative resume and a development or production history of this play. If the play has had other developmental readings or productions, they must be included here.
  • A description of this play, no more than ½ page. This need not be a summary of the plot – we welcome a description of the play’s world, characters and conflict, and your reasons for writing it.
  • A complete list of characters.
  • A ten-page dialogue sample. Pages do not need to come from the beginning of your text but must be sequential.

After reviewing your query, we will let you know whether or not we wish to read the entire script. Agents submitting plays should expect a response within 6-12 months.

Ready to show us your work? Submit here.

web site

July 18-August 7, 2016

The WorkShop Theater's Main Stage and Jewel Box Theaters

312 W.36th Street, NYC

NO PARTICIPATION FEE!

Dear Friend in the Theatre,

MITF: Summer is a combination of short plays and musicals, a Variety division, the Short Play Lab, and staged readings.
Short plays and musicals are the mainstay of the MITF Short Subjects. We're looking for any kind of short play or musical that fits the guidelines:
* 25 - 60 min. long. Shorter plays will be given preference in selection.
* Easy to produce in a no-frills festival
* Any genre. (Plays using guns as props will not be considered).
* Union and Non-Union shows accepted.
* Plays must be sent in Word Document or PDF File. Pages MUST be numbered and script must be in standard playscript format.*

The Festival will take place at the Workshop Theater's Main Stage and Jewel Box Theaters, 312 W. 36th St., NYC. MITF: Summer runs from July 18-August 7. The Short Play Lab runs Saturday, July 16 - Sunday, July 17 in the Jewel Box Theater.

Short plays and musicals receive 3 performances, all in the same week. Producers receive a share of the profits, if any. Short Subjects receive a tech rehearsal equal to 2 times the running time of the show. Full-Lengths receive a tech rehearsal equal to 2.5 times the running time of the show.
The Variety division spans cabaret, magic, improv, sketch comedy, standup, and burlesque. Acts can be solo or group affairs, so long as they fit within an hour, including setup and strike, and so long as they bring their own music director and so forth. The Festival provides a keyboard and amp. Shows receive a 1-hour tech rehearsal and a share of the profits, if any.

The Short Play Lab is just like the regular Short Play Labs throughout the year: 2 programs of about 10 short plays each (not to exceed 10 min. in length, the shorter plays receive preference in selection), each program performed twice. The Festival takes the door; 2 cash prizes are awarded to the most popular shows, 1 from each program. Each show receives no more than 20 min. of tech rehearsal.

For all shows, the Festival provides a theatre (the WorkShop Theater's Main Stage and JewelBox), shared scenery (rehearsal cubes, a table, and 4 chairs), front-of-house staff, a board op (NOT a lighting designer), and a keyboard plus amp if necessary. Shows must be fully produced (off book!).
In addition to the fully produced shows, there will also be staged readings on weekday afternoons. Producers wishing to present a staged reading must make sure their reading doesn't exceed 3 hours and must pay a $200 fee. The Festival doesn't provide a board op or any technical rehearsal to speak of.

To submit a project, mark it clearly "MITF: Summer," and let us know whether it is a short play or musical, a variety act, a 10-min. play, or a staged reading. We'll curate the entries as they come in, so you can start working on them as soon as possible. Please send all playscripts and all Variety submissions (video reels, youtube, etc.), to: john.chatterton@gmail.com
We look forward to your submissions!

Submission Deadline For Short Subjects and Full-Lengths is April 15, 2016.
Submission Deadline For Variety Acts is May 2, 2016
Submission Deadline For Short Play Lab is June 20, 2016.

*12 pt Times Roman; character names in the middle on their own line; line spaces between speeches and stage directions; indented stage directions; 1" margins all around.
