Sip and Play; A Series of Readings for Aspiring Artists in NYC

Mariah Sade Ralph & Love City Arts (New York City) is now accepting submissions for Sip and Play; A Series of Readings for Aspiring Artists in NYC. (Open to All)

Ten (10) short plays will be selected in Phase 1 of the Project and performed in two groups of five (5) over the course of two reading sessions in NYC (Winter 2019 - 2020). We will also consider five (5) full length plays for future reading sessions.

Since 2017, Love City Arts has served as an Arts Encouragement Platform dedicated 100% to Encouraging, Empowering and Equipping artists, creatives + all of humanity in NYC and beyond. Love City Arts has celebrated artists of all backgrounds and stages of development. Beginning this year, Sip and Play will serve as an opportunity for artists to chill, engage and enjoy their artistry through the art of play performance. The plays submitted are read blind by a committee and chosen for their alignment with Love City Arts’s mission and guidelines, as well as their unique perspective. All interested playwrights are encouraged to participate (remotely or in-person).

Plays must follow the guidelines listed below:

• The submission deadline is February 1, 2019.
• Submissions are only accepted via email and must be in .pdf format. Submissions must accompany google form.
• Complete a Google Form with contact and play information to receive an email address link to submit your play. Google Form is at  https://forms.gle/iR4rDGbh3dxqv2QE7.
• Play Submission is FREE but no more than 2 submissions will be accepted. 
• Plays will require no more than 8 actors.
• Short Plays will run no more than 10 - 15 minutes. Full length and/or one-acts will run no more than 30 minutes - 1.5 hours. 
• Plays will have a minimal set, costume, prop, and special effect requirements.
• Plays must include a title sheet with Title, Playwright, cast of characters (with a brief description), and setting. (The title sheet will be removed for the reading committee so that submissions are blind.)  
• Plays fall into whatever category the playwright deems appropriate. 
• Preference will be given to NYC/NJ/CT based playwrights. However, all playwrights globally will be considered.
• Plays align with Love City Arts’ mission: “Love City Arts seeks to create a community in digital and shared physical space. They believe in artistic, contemplative, and healing spaces. Their goal is to equip, empower and encourage artists from all walks of life.”  This means altruistic playwrights and/or a focus on diverse characters. 
• The aesthetic of Love City Arts is to highlight the beauty and growth of the artistic community. Please submit your plays with this in mind.

Timeline for submissions:

Semi-finalists will be notified via email by the end of January 2020. All other applicants will be notified around the same time and will be invited to participate in the “Sip and Play” events with hopes of future engagement.

Playwrights whose pieces have been chosen for Reading/Production in Winter 2020 will be notified via email by the end of Febuary 2020.
