The Strand, where women take the stage, is the only brick-and-mortar theater in Baltimore, Maryland to present outstanding works written ONLY by women artists in 2016-17! Our theme this season is journeys. For our popular short play festival this year, we’re seeking 10-minute plays that explore the original meaning of a journey, which in Middle English means “the distance traveled in one day.”
We are looking for short plays that are highly inventive, imaginative, and altogether powerful, with heightened language, high stakes, and strong characters. No conventional kitchen-sink or living room dramas, please.
The rules:
· 10-minute plays, maximum.
· Cover Page includes title of play, synopsis, character breakdown, playwright’s name, and contact info.
· PDF only.
· Playwrights must reside in VA, DC, MD, DE, or PA.
· Submit to: submissions@strand-theater.org
Playwrights who are cis or trans women, of any race or country of origin, writing in English, are strongly encouraged to apply, though we are open to everyone.
