Jaemi Theatre Company seeks plays by AAPI playwrights for its inaugural AAPI Theater Festival

Website

Deadline: November 29, 2026, 11:59 PM Eastern

SUBMISSION FORM

Jaemi Theatre Company, an Asian-led nonprofit theatre company in the Washington, DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia)

Open to Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) playwrights across the U.S. Playwrights with ties to the DC area are preferred, but everyone is welcome to apply.

Staged readings at partner theatres across the DC area in May 2027, as part of our inaugural AAPI Theater Festival. The festival will feature four new plays by AAPI playwrights and one Korean play in English translation.

Theme: "Invisible." We are looking for something provoking: stories never told, never seen, never heard, even never tasted.

Plays up to two hours in running time. One-acts and full-length plays are both welcome.

Playwrights may submit more than one play. If more than one is shortlisted, the playwright will choose one.

Previously produced plays are eligible.

We will build a shortlist in December and January, and festival directors will select their plays in February 2027. All submitters will be notified. Travel and housing are not provided this year. (We really hope to do so in the future!)

Questions can be sent to jaemitheatre@gmail.com.
