MITF is now committed to three Festivals. MITF: Fall is entering its second season and is a combination of full-lengths, short plays and musicals, a Variety division, the Short Play Lab, and staged readings. Our Midtown location is safe, clean, convenient, and close to the offices of industry members. It is the Festival of tomorrows’ producers today! We set ourselves apart from other festivals because: (1) we are the Festival where new producers work alongside seasoned pros and (2) we have implemented a new Profit Sharing Policy (PSP).* Every play now has the opportunity to earn their piece of the pie!
Short plays and musicals 30-60 minutes long are the mainstay of MITF: Fall but we're looking for any kind of play or musical that fits the guidelines:
• Short Subjects and musicals 30 - 60 min. long
• Full-lengths and musicals 61-90 min. long
• Easy to produce in a no-frills festival.
• Any genre. (Short subjects using guns as props will not be considered; full-lengths can use guns as props).
• Plays must be sent in Word Document or PDF File.
• Pages MUST be numbered and script must be in standard playscript format.*
• The estimated running time of the play must be clearly indicated.
The Festival will take place at the Workshop Theater's Jewel Box Theater, 312 W. 36th St., NYC. MITF: Fall runs from October 29-November 20, 2017.
How to apply for MITF: Fall.
Short Subjects (30-60 minute Dramas, Comedies, Musicals, Dance Pieces, Adaptations, etc), and Variety Acts, (Magic Acts, Improv, Stand-up, Cabaret, Sketch Comedy, etc). Full-lengths, 61-90 minutes.
To submit a project, mark it clearly "MITF: Fall," and let us know if it is a play or musical and whether it is a Short Subject or Full-length. We'll curate the entries as they come in. If you are accepted, we will send you a one-page contract so you can start working on them as soon as possible.
Please send all MITF: Fall Play and Variety submissions (video reels, youtube, etc), to: john.chatterton@gmail.com
That’s it, there is NO PARTICIPATION FEE!** We look forward to your submissions!
Short plays and musicals receive 3 performances, all in the same week. Producers receive a share of the profits, if any. Shows receive a tech rehearsal equal to 2 times the running time of the show (2.5 times if it is a full-length).
**BEFORE SENDING IN YOUR SUBMISSION: please read the Festival Manual to see if your show complies with our requirements and to learn about MITF's Profit Sharing Policy (PSP), and your options.
Submission Deadline For Plays is September 30, 2017.
Submission Deadline For Variety and the Short Play Lab is October 15, 2017.
(We curate the scripts as we receive them, and will let you know if you are accepted as soon as possible, so as to give you more time to prepare for your production. So, the sooner you get your script in, the better. For all submissions, only one show per writer, per Festival).
The Variety division spans cabaret, magic, improv, sketch comedy, standup, and burlesque. Acts can be solo or group affairs, so long as they fit within an hour, including setup and strike, and so long as they bring their own music director and so forth. The Festival provides a keyboard and amp. Shows receive a 1-hour tech rehearsal and a share of the profits, if any. Each act will be given one performance with the possibility of added performances to those acts with the best advance ticket sales-Festival schedule permitting.
For all shows, the Festival provides a theatre (the WorkShop Theater’s Jewel Box Theater), shared scenery (rehearsal cubes, a table, and 4 chairs), front-of-house staff, and a keyboard plus amp if necessary. Shows must be off book and provide their own board operator, stage manager, and company manager.
In addition to the fully produced shows, there will also be staged readings on weekday afternoons. Producers wishing to present a staged reading must make sure their reading doesn't exceed 3 hours and must pay a $250 fee. For staged readings, the Festival doesn't provide any technical rehearsal to speak of.
*12 pt Times Roman; character names in the middle on their own line; line spaces between speeches and stage directions; indented stage directions; 1" margins all around.
We never post opportunities that require a submission fee. LEARN MORE.
