The PTC New Play Festival is seeking short plays

web site

Deadline: June 30, 2021 11:59 pm

The Post Theatre Company (PTC) is the resident theatre company of the Theatre Arts Program in the Department of Theatre, Dance and Arts Management at Long Island University: Post. The PTC is a resident ensemble of actors, designers and managers that reflects the commitment of the program to theatre as a communicative language, to exploring the possibilities in the creation of new work, and to theatre as a vehicle for social understanding and change.

The mission of the Post Theatre Company is twofold: to provide a performing ensemble which approaches as closely as possible the conditions of a working professional theatre company, and to present exceptional live theatre.

The PTC New Play Festival is seeking short plays from early career playwrights for our Fall Festival season. 5 plays will be chosen for back-to-back production in the PTC Lab, our resident blackbox theatre (Format and date TBD).

Submission Guidelines:

- Must come from early-career playwrights, including students.

- Plays must be unproduced, including amateur, collegiate, and professional productions. (Previous readings/workshops are allowed).

- Involve no more than 4 actors.

- 10-15 pages lasting no more than 20 minutes.

- Plays that demonstrate a need for dramaturgy are highly encouraged.

- Please include a 3-5 sentence synopsis of your play in the script PDF, and/or a logline.

- Blind Submissions: For the sake of equitable blind submissions, any script that contains personal identifiers (name, email, pronouns, etc.) will be discarded. When submitting, please include a separate PDF containing your contact information and the play you have submitted.

- Within this separate document, you may include an optional brief artistic statement of 50-200 words.

- Plays may be written in any format. If you need help formatting your play, visit www.dramatistsguild.com/script-formats.

Send all submissions to ptcliterary@gmail.com with the Subject Line reading “PTCFEST: Title of Play by ‘Your Name’”. Playwrights may submit as many plays as they would like, so long as each play is submitted individually. Do not send hard-copy scripts.

Submissions will be reviewed and assessed by resident student dramaturgs of the New Play Festival. Finalists and Winners will be notified of their status in September.

Winning plays are also subject for use in an educational setting. Playwrights will also be given copies of reviews, photos, marketing materials, and media mentions from production, and will subsequently be eligible for member status in the Dramatists Guild of America.
