The Trans [Plays] of Remembrance Festival is currently accepting submissions of 10-minute plays as well as short (5-min) performances by singer/songwriters, poets and performance artists by members of the transgender community. The plays/performances should fit the theme of The Transgender Day of Remembrance, but that doesn’t mean they need to be sad or somber; we encourage you to submit works celebrating and remembering life not only in the past, but in the present and future as well. We will select 3 plays and 3 performances for our 2021 festival.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance is a day meant to honor and memorialize those in the trans* community lost to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. The origin of the Transgender Day of Remembrance was in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil in tribute to the life of Rita Hester, an African American transgender woman. In remembrance of Rita, and the many other BIPOC members of the trans* community, we aspire to feature their voices in this festival.
PLAYWRIGHTS
To submit a script, you must identify as a member of the trans* community, and we ask that you send a short paragraph explaining your connection to the Transgender Day of Remembrance with your play. Any submission without this will not be considered. Plays should be 10 minutes or shorter in length and be able to be performed digitally over Zoom. We look forward to reading all your brilliant pieces.

Please email tpr.submissions@gmail.com with any and all work that you feel would fit the theme of the festival. Each performance day will feature plays as well as other multimedia, transmedia, and interdisciplinary artists.
Submissions at a Glance:
- Theme: Transgender Day of Remembrance
- Must be member of trans* community to submit.
- Must be able to be performed/read digitally.
- Length: 10 minute for plays / 5 minutes for performances
- Cast size (plays): Maximum of 4 characters.
- 2 submissions max per person (but the pieces must be contrasting in theme).
- Paragraph explaining playwrights/performers connection to the theme.
- Time frame for submissions: Rolling from June 1st until July 15th @ 11:59pm EST.
- Other information: All types of documents and forms (inclusive of poetry) will be considered.
- Playwrights and artists will paid a $30 royalty per accepted piece. While we know that this amount is not equivalent to compensation, we hope this amount represents a token of our appreciation for the work being shared in this educational, virtual space.
- All artists will be featured on the T[P]R website with a headshot and bio and link to portfolios of work, if so desired.
