Modern Day Griot is working with the New York Transit Museum to produce/showcase an experimental, interactive theatrical project called In Transit in June 5 and 6, 2014.
We are currently seeking one act-plays that explore the art of storytelling as they unfold in the subway cars of the New York subway system.
Our criteria for submission to the project is that playwrights must be from the New York City area and that scenes must take place on a subway car or platform.
**Please note that the train cars date from the year 1887 to present day, so submission of period pieces are strongly encouraged.**
Submission packet must include:
• A 5-12 page long play (should be 15 minutes max) with an optimum cast size of 2-4 people. The submitted script must be the script proposed for presentation, with no major alterations necessary.
• A Submissions inquiry letter (one page only) which must include:
• Brief history of the work
• Cast size & character breakdown
• Synopsis of the piece
All submissions must be submitted electronically to our submissions department: MDGSubmissions (at) moderndaygriot (dot) org.
The deadline for submissions is April 21, 2014, 5pm EST and the final line-up will be announced in May 2014. Only one entry per playwright will be accepted. You will be contacted should we wish to invite participation to the In Transit project. Neither fax nor paper submissions will be accepted and absolutely NO phone calls.
Please note that due to high volume of inquiries, response time is usually 3-6 weeks and while Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company cannot offer royalties we can offer a production opportunity.
