La Bestia: Sweet Mother, a Troubadour's Tale is a modern dance/music event which tells the story of Valencia, a Honduran immigrant and mother who suffers indignities and threats to live her dream: coming to the United States to start a new life. It is told as myth, a story within a story within a story, bringing together the timeless and the particular.
The musical component, directed by Desiree Miller and composed by both Desiree (Cello) and Becca Weiss (singer) underscores the libretto with virtuosity and a variety of styles. The concert will include a special guest appearance by Liz Higgins, who will dance her own original choreography, created for this show. Liz has traveled the world dancing for the Morris Louis and Nikolai Dance Company, as well as dancing at the Joyce Theater (NY), Kennedy Center (DC) and numerous other venues around the country and world.
