Van Lier New Voices Fellowship 2023

Website

Deadline: February 6, 2023

Rattlestick Theater is accepting applications for its Van Lier New Voices Fellowship program, supported by The New York Community Trust’s Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund with support from the Jerome Foundation.

The Van Lier New Voices Fellowship supports playwrights of color age 30 and under. During a year-long residency, Fellows will work on multiple artistic projects through an individually-tailored program of Rattlestick play development opportunities, and form relationships with other theater makers at various career stages from all parts of the world. The Fellowship includes a cash award of $35,000, plus access to a $5,000 Opportunity Fund and to a wide range of Rattlestick resources, including artistic program participation, mentorship, office and rehearsal space, and staff support.

In the 2023-2024 cycle, Rattlestick Theater will award two Fellowships. Applications will be accepted through February 6, 2023. Finalists will be notified in spring 2023. The 2023-2024 Fellowship period begins June 1, 2023 and ends May 30, 2024.

ELIGIBILITY AND EXPECTATIONS
  • The playwright will be 30 and under from June 2023-May 2024.
  • The playwright must be BIPOC-identified.
  • The playwright is expected to prioritize the Fellowship, and use it as an opportunity not only to share existing work, but also create new work.
  • The playwright must reside in, or within 30 mile radius of, New York City.
  • The playwright is expected to commit a minimum of 15-20 hours per week to research, writing, readings and meetings related to the Fellowship.

  • Priority will be given to applicants who do not have other time-intensive writing commitments during the duration of the Fellowship.
