Deadline: February 27, 2023 at 11:59 PM EST
The Exquisite Corpse Company’s Writer’s Lab welcomes six new playwrights annually to work with the company. Over the course of the 8-week program, playwrights will meet weekly and generate a new one-act play. Facilitated by Literary Directors Phillip Christian Smith and Blake Bishton, the Lab incorporates Culture Lab LIC’s current fine arts exhibitions as interactive writing prompts. This guided process encourages participants to create work in new ways and culminates in a reading series in June.
The 2023 Writer’s Lab will meet on Mondays, March 27- May 15. Labs will be held in person at Culture Lab LIC from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The lab is structured in conversation with the work in the gallery; as such, writers must be fully available for every session. Previously written or produced plays will not be considered for development in this lab.
All plays completed in the Lab will be presented by Exquisite Corpse Company as part of the Drinks & Drama Series, running June 8th - 29th. Selected writers will receive a travel stipend of $150.
ECC encourages all to apply and will not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, religion, color, citizenship status, sex, gender and gender expression, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability status, or any other applicable characteristics protected by law. Culture Lab LIC is handicap accessible.
