The Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival will take place in August 2023
PWTF CALL FOR PLAYS/PRESENTED WORK FOR 2023 FESTIVAL - Folkslore: Breaking the Binary Festival
The Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival is now seeking playwright applications for our 2023 festival, centered around the subject of the ever-expanding definition of gender and womanhood.
The 2023 Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival will joyfully disrupt society by breaking the binary. Folklore makes space for folks to choose their own happy ending! We’re celebrating the playful, colorful and beautiful gender spectrum of our world. By looking beyond the traditional narrative of womanhood, the 2023 festival aims to expand our view and change the story. Let’s make magic breaking free of the cultural boxes that bind us and discover the intersections of our colorful world.
Submissions are ideally longer one-acts (30-45 minutes in length) or full length plays (60-90 minutes in length) though we will accept a sample of a work in progress. In addition - this year we are accepting and seeking out “Presented Work”. We define “Presented Work” as artistic offerings that are comparable to work in a fringe festival; work where you own much of your process (script, casting, directing, rehearsing, etc) and we support you with a stipend, venue, marketing, artistic input if needed (with some oversight in the process), administrative support, and more. Past Presented Work has included solo performance, duo musical theater one-acts, and more. For more information or clarification please email Polly at Polly@phillywomenstheatrefest.org.
With our theme this year of the ever-expanding definition of gender and womanhood we hope to focus our weekend productions on artists and stories of folks who fall outside the normative gender binary (transgender, agender, Two-Spirit, gender queer, non-binary, gender fluid, etc).
Submissions are due February 24, 2023.
PWTF is a women's theatre festival committed to diversity, equity and inclusion by embracing all people and viewpoints. We aim to embrace intersectionality and serve people of all colors and backgrounds, inclusive of our BIPOC, non-binary, and trans community members. PWTF does not discriminate based on age, race, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religion, or ability. Through staffing, casting, and programming that reflects the diverse makeup of our community and our world, we are dedicated to creating accessible theatre for the Greater Philadelphia Region and its theatre artists. Our story is to #ChangeTheStory.
To apply, please visit our website at http://phillywomenstheatrefest.org/submissions/. Significant preference will be given to playwrights located within 60 miles of Center City Philadelphia.
