Deadline: February 28, 2023
It's time to start thinking about what play you are going to submit to the 11th Annual Columbus Black Theatre Festival held every July in Ohio! With so many pressing issues that are hindering the ability for some people to make decisions that best fit their life, our Founder/Artistic Director, Julie Whitney Scott once again asked, in prayer for the theme for 2023.
In 2021 the theme was "Say Something, It Might Change Something." In 2022 the theme was "Speaking Truth that Heals" so it is fitting that we follow up with the theme for 2023 to be
"The Right to Choose."
We will be looking for short one act plays that address the rights of people to choose: Who they love. Where they live. What they do with their bodies. To live or die with dignity. To be single or married. To be male or female or both. And any other "right" that you as the playwright feels fits our theme and is questioned by others who feel they have the "right" to judge you.
BUT remember. It must be a story that is a story and not a lecture to push your views on others. It must be about everyday people and their everyday lives and how they choose to live it.
