Deadline: April 1, 2022 at 5PM
The EVOLUTION FESTIVAL will present six original works of theater, dance, music, and interdisciplinary performance by NYC-based artists from September 8 to October 15, 2022 at The Center at West Park in New York City. The festival is curated by artists Christina Franklin, Melanie Greene, and Trevor Weston.
We are seeking existing works in progress that are ready to share with audiences but have not yet had a world premiere. Works should be evening-length: at least 45 minutes and not more than two hours. Above all, we are looking for fresh, urgent, personal work that won’t leave you alone.
Artists from historically under-represented communities, including Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and People of Color, LGBTQ+ folx, and people with disabilities, are enthusiastically invited to apply. (We regret that our restrooms are not fully accessible at this time. We are working with neighboring businesses to provide additional restroom access.) We also welcome applications from artists at all stages of their careers, including those who have not yet received major institutional support.
All artists must be over 18, not be currently enrolled in a full-time academic program, and reside in the NYC metro area. Artists may apply as individuals or formal or informal groups, collective, ensemble, or companies.
Each artist will have use of the Center’s Sanctuary Space for six days, including technical and dress rehearsals, culminating in three evening performances. Artists will have the use of CWP’s technical equipment, including a theatrical lighting system, sound system, and projector. Artists will also have 40 hours of free rehearsal space at CWP prior to the performance week.
Each artist will receive a performance fee of $1,200 plus a split of the box office (after fee recoupment). CWP will provide technical support as well as ticketing, front of house, and photography and videography for all performances.
Artists will be responsible for all production expenses associated with their work, including fees for creative team members and performers and the cost of materials and additional equipment for set, costumes, props, lighting, and sound.
Applications for the EVOLUTION FESTIVAL are open as of March 1, 2022.
Applicants are due by 5pm (Eastern) on Friday, April 1, 2022.
Applicants will be notified by May 1, 2022.
