In addition to a $10,000 prize, the Shakespeare's Sister Fellowship includes a Hedgebrook residency on Whidbey Island, a fellowship position at the A Room of Her Own Foundation Retreat at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, and a project residency with the Lark Play Development Center in New York City. The fellowship will take place over the course of one year, throughout which the playwright will be mentored by the fellowship's creator, renowned playwright and actor Ellen McLaughlin.
Applicants must be able to commit wholeheartedly to each stage of the fellowship, entailing four weeks of dedicated time over the course of the year, and must be willing to write an entirely new play.
– All women who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply.
– In the first round, applicants will submit 30 pages of a play.
– Applicants who make it to the second round will be invited to submit the same play in its entirety.
