Our first short play festival—an evening of ten 10-minute plays and musicals, will be performed in the Washington DC area in the fall of 2017. The only restriction is that it cannot be currently published (or be under consideration for publication). Only one submission is permitted per playwright. Past productions are ok. There is no fee for submissions. Plays will be accepted through the spring of 2017. Plays are adjudicated by theatre professionals. Audience members will not get a vote! The top ten plays will be published by Infinity Stage and performed onstage next year. In addition, we offer these prizes:

First place: $200
Second place: $150
Third place: $100
Fourth Place: $50

There are no restrictions on your submission, per se, but it is more likely to be considered if it meets the following criteria:

1. Its running time is between 7 and 17 minutes
2. It is light or comedic in nature, rather than dark and brooding
3. It contains no vulgarisms or nudity
4. It has a cast of 3-7
5. It has a preponderance of female roles
6. Any musical has a backing instrumental CD
7. It is typed in formatting approved by Samuel French

LAURA'S EARLY RETURNS by Ramon L. Delgado is a finalist for NYCPlaywrights project "Women in the Age of Trump."

Professor Delgado on the inspiration for this monologue:

“Laura’s Early Returns” attempts to contrast past civil rights gains with possible future losses through memories of a lost, loving relationship. Three drafts over three days were needed to strike a balance between the character’s personal story and the social comment."

Retired Professor Emeritus RAMON L. DELGADO  is the author of eight published short plays, notably “Waiting for the Bus” in the Bantam Press collection Ten Great One Act Plays and the full-length play A Little Holy Water. Three of his one-acts are available from Samuel French. He was editor of The Best Short Plays series from 1981-1989 and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

To qualify:

Your play must be an original, not previously produced, unpublished work written by an African American playwright.

“Produced” - Your play was marketed for production date(s) by either you (its playwright) or a theatre company and was performed before an audience who purchased tickets to see the event.

Staged readings are not considered productions. If your play has only had public or private readings, but has not been produced as a full scale stage performance, you are permitted to submit the play.

​"Published" - Your play is an officially published work and commands royalties from the producing theater each time it is performed.

Peekskill High School Drama Department Ten-Minute Play Festival

The Peekskill High School Drama Department will be accepting 10-minute play submissions for their 1st Ten-Minute Play festival. Students will be in charge of selection, acting, designing, directing, and producing chosen work which will culminate in a full-scale evening of drama in May 2017. This is a quest to expose our students to outside theatre resources and make connections with worldly practitioners. Competition Overview

The Elite Theatre Company’s 2017 One-Act Play Writing Competition offers North American playwrights the opportunity to submit for judging no more than one (1) one-act play with a running time of no more than 30 minutes each. There will be up to 5 winners; each winner may have their one-act play(s) produced on stage by Elite Theatre Company in 2018, for a run of up to 12 performances.

(ETC reserves the right to produce the one-acts at any venue during the calendar year.)

To be accepted into the competition, one-act play scripts must:

1. Be written by a U.S. or Canadian playwright;

2. Be original and unpublished;

3 Be written in generally accepted play script format;

4. Have a running time of not more than 30 minutes (under 20 minutes is recommended);

5. Be a comedy, drama, mystery, thriller or a monologue (no musicals or children’s plays will be accepted); and

6. Be received between March 1 - 31, 2017.
ONLY THE FIRST 100 SCRIPTS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR JUDGING. (NOTE: In 2016, we received 100 scripts on the first day of the submission period.)

Scripts not in compliance will not be accepted for judging. Playwrights will be notified via e-mail only when their script has been received.

It is recommended that the play have single or unit sets; no more than six (6) characters; and not require complicated costuming, sets, props or special effects. These are recommendations only and will not disqualify a play from the competition.

Judging

The judges are comprised of qualified playwrights, theatrical directors, producers or theater educators.

The Literary Manager of The Elite Theatre Company and the Judges shall have sole discretion over the manner in which the plays are judged, and their determination of the winners will be final.

Winner Notification
Winners of the competition shall be notified by e-mail or mail by October 15, 2017. Winners may make minor corrections and changes to their script before rehearsals begin in December, 2017. Additional consultations may take place between the winning playwrights, ETC’s Artistic Director and Festival Producer before rehearsals and again before performances.

2018 One-Act Festival
By submitting a script for judging, the playwright gives the rights to Elite Theatre Company to produce and perform the play during the calendar year of 2018, if chosen by the judges to be a finalist, for up to 12 performances, during its regularly scheduled Annual One-Act Festival. Each finalist playwright shall be paid $100 before the first performance of the play.

Determination of the order of plays, directors, and production staff for ETC’s 2018 One-Act Festival will be made solely by ETC’s Artistic Director and/or Festival Producer. Winning playwrights are encouraged to attend a performance of their play. Two (2) complimentary tickets will be given to each winning playwright to attend any performance. Transportation and lodging will not be provided by ETC.

Dan I Rodden Jr embraced the variety and challenge of life fully. His care for others extended to his sons, daughters-in-law, and his grandchildren.

Specific Rules

• Submissions for the award must be unproduced or scheduled for production at the time of submission. However, we encourage writers to seek production opportunities during the submission period. 
• Plays must be at least 75 minutes in length. No musicals are considered. 
• Subject matter is open but excessive violence or language, or gratuitous abuse or sexual content will be rejected. Plays with blasphemy directed at any religion will not be considered. 
• Yearly deadline closes March 27. Plays may be submitted at any time to be considered for the next award. 

The Award Series

Our grandparents HH and Jane Egbert and Dan I and Naomi Rodden were not people you would have heard of before. On the surface of things, they lived everyday American lives. But they also all took great risks in their own ways to make a better world for themselves, their families, and their country. We wanted to honor their memory in a small way by giving some encouragement in the writing arts, something all our grandparents cared for deeply.

The Egbert-Rodden Awards are meant to encourage writers to create new work. The Awards are not a publication or production award and no materials will be published or produced. Please understand the following before you submit.

General Rules

1. Each award carries a $100 prize. 
2. The award winner is responsible for any taxes. 
3. The author must supply a valid PayPal account for payment or the award. 
4. The award winner agrees to allow his or her name and likeness to be announced. 
5. The author of the submission affirms that s/he is the author of the piece submitted. 
6. The author affirms that the piece is unpublished or unproduced and not slated of publication or production at the time of submission. 
7. We encourage the writer to pursue all avenues for publication and production while the submission is being considered. Post-submission publication or production has no effect on the award selection. 
8. Award winners who cannot be contacted or do not respond in a timely manner will be withdrawn from consideration. 
9. The judges' decisions are final and they may reject a submission for any reason.

PLAYWRIGHTS' LAB ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP

Our  Playwrights Lab. consists of an exciting and varied group of playwrights who meet for 3 hours a week, to listen to professional actors read their plays.  After the readings, there is constructive discussion about how well the play is working, and serving the objective of the playwright.

These are not  cold readings; Pulse provides the actors for the scenes, and gets scripts to the actors, so that they can read the scripts before the workshop meets.

The group is currently under the leadership of internationally produced award winning playwright Lezley Steele.  It is administered by Brian Richardson. All playwrights involved are expected to participate in discussion about all the works being read, not only their own plays.

One of the many distinguishing features of our Lab, is that the playwrights receive FULL READINGS OF THEIR WORK, as many times as they need in the workshops environment, until it is deemed ready for a full public audience.  They are thus able to re-write and hear their changes as often as they wish!  A unique and most valuable opportunity and learning experience for the development of the plays!

Works from our Playwrights Lab. have been performed in venues all over NYC and in other States. We take selected plays to full production level, as part of our new play development program.

The Playwrights, under the leadership of Ms. Steele continue working on the script until they feel it is ready for a public viewing.  When the play is deemed ready, it  is presented in a full public staged reading.  Pulse casts the play, provides the director, and provides the presentation venue.

PLEASE NOTE:  This is not a beginning level class.  

The Playwright must have a work in progress, and be willing to continue working on the script; this is not a workshop for people who consider that their work is already completed.

The Nora Salon reading series

Nora’s Playhouse is proud to announce The Nora Salon (TNS), a new monthly reading series devoted to supporting and promoting the work of emerging women playwrights from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

We envision TNS as an informal gathering of artists and Nora’s supporters who want an inside look at how plays get from page to stage, and the opportunity to participate in the development process. Our first salon will take place in January 2017 in Downtown Brooklyn.

We welcome submissions of any genre and length, provided they:

• are by women playwrights in the NYC area,
• centrally feature women’s stories and perspectives,
• have not yet had a production.

Bring in a preliminary idea or simply come in with an open mind, and by Sunday evening you will have—at the very least—the foundation of your next play.

Submissions are now being accepted for Capital Repertory Theatre’s Sixth Annual NEXT ACT! NEW PLAY SUMMIT!

Next Act! now in its sixth year, is an expansion of Capital Repertory Theatre’s (theREP) commitment to the development of new work. At the same time, the weekend long summit is designed to complement the Upper Hudson Valley’s rich diverse populations. The summits directly reflect the theatre’s mission, “to create meaningful theatre generated from an authentic link to the community.” Next Act! New Play Summit 6 takes place October 20 - 23, 2017 and will feature readings of four never-before produced plays, with additional special events throughout the weekend.

As in years past, the theatre is devoted to finding a play that can be produced in an upcoming season. Evidence of this devotion can be found in theREP’s productions of Suzanne Bradbeer’s The God Game (2015) and Naked Influence (2016), Sherry Kramer’s How Water Behaves (2015), and Bob Morris’ (2017) production of Assisted Loving; Dating With My Dad, all of which started at Next Act.

Playwrights should submit one document, as a Microsoft word or PDF file attachment. This document must include: a short one-paragraph synopsis – that illuminates the plays entire plot including its ending; the character descriptions and the first 10 pages (and only the first ten pages) of their play. Submission documents must be void of playwright’s name and contact information.

Submissions that do not conform to the guidelines stipulated will not be accepted.

Distilled Theatre Company is excited to present our fifth season of dtc radio! dtc radio curates and produces new story-based radio plays that air for free on iTunes and are available through any podcast app. The dtc radio team will work with you on script development and when a final draft is complete, the team will find a director, actors, a sound designer, and produce the script. There will be 5-6 new plays in Season five, all around 20min in length.

Playwrights on Park Reading Series

We are currently accepting submissions for the 2017-2018 season of the Playwrights on Park Reading Series at Playhouse on Park in West Hartford, CT.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: March 15.

IMPORTANT INFO:

Playwrights MUST be able to come to West Hartford for the day of the reading. There will be a talkback with the playwright and the cast after the reading. There will be a rehearsal the day of the reading in which attendance by the playwright is optional, but strongly encouraged. Transportation may be provided from NYC or New England locations by the Playhouse.

We will ultimately choose 5-6 readings for the 2017/2018 season. Final selections will be made by June 1.

The plays will receive a cast of professional actors and a director and will be presented as a staged reading for a public audience. After the reading, a moderated audience discussion with the actors, the director, and most importantly, the playwright, will give both the Playhouse on Park and the playwright constructive feedback to further develop the playwright's vision for the play. 

Playwrights on Park is a new and exciting artistic endeavor for Playhouse on Park. Our mission is to develop and produce original plays and musicals, to foster emerging and established playwrights, and to become a leader in new play development. We aim to help establish the Greater Hartford Area as a premiere destination for the cultivation and exploration of innovative theatrical work.

I usually don’t ask for feedback on ten-minutes, but this one was a little unusual, and I felt like I wanted some. So I posted on the Playwright Binge asking if anybody wanted to trade a ten-minute play for feedback. The response was incredible! I ended up reading 20 ten-minute plays that day, and got a ton of feedback on mine that helped shape it and make it funnier.

So today, I woke up, it’s Tuesday, I have a couple new ten-minutes, and I thought why not make this a regular thing? There are no development opportunities for ten-minute plays but, as with any play, a ten-minute can be improved with thoughtful feedback and attention.  (You may also send ten-page scenes that you’d like some feedaback on.) So let’s provide for each other what doesn’t exist.

If you don’t have a play today, don’ t worry:  I’ll remind you about TAPT each week on the Official Playwrights of Facebook page and Twitter (please follow me at @donnahoke to see the confirmation reminders–IF THERE IS NO REMINDER, THERE IS NO TAPT THAT WEEK, but this is very rare, so always feel free to inquire), so when you see that we’re on, send your play and somebody will be ready to read it. And if you’ve haven’t got one, here’s why I think you should.

Playwrights can send their ten-minute plays or ten-page scenes to me at donna@donnahoke.com with the subject #TAPT (Trade A Play Tuesday).  I will trade them two-by-two as they come in. Subject matter can be anything, but there are  two important rules:

1) It must be a ten-minute play or a ten-page scene. No sneaking in any longer one-acts.  If you are sending a ten-page scene, please give your reviewer some context. READERS: If you receive something longer than ten minutes, you do not have to read it. Please alert me, so I can remind the sender about the rule. Senders, PLEASE be courteous about this rule; it’s not fair to others who are following it.

2) You MUST read and provide feedback within a reasonable time frame: Ideally, this would be WITHIN THREE HOURS, but certainly NO LATER THAN THE END OF THE DAY (that means midnight EST). We all know that once something languishes in your email, it can get lost forever, which would not be fair to the playwright who is diligently reading your play and awaiting your stellar wisdom. If you can’t give a thoughtful critique within this time frame, don’t send it until you have the time to dedicate.

The earlier in the day you send your play, the better. This gives me the best ability to match people with people they haven’t been matched with before; you can also send it the night before, or even whenever you remember during the week; I’ll hang on to it until Tuesday. And on Tuesday, you must do your trade. I also ask that you not send things past five o’clock; it’s rare that I’d get someone to trade you with that late. It’s okay if you tell your reader you can’t respond until after five, but sending that late doesn’t tend to work well.

 Once you’ve sent your feedback and received yours, if you feel like you want more AND are willing to read another play–send it again. I’ll trade you with another playwright. AN IMPORTANT WORD ABOUT FEEDBACK: Please take the time to give thoughtful and honest feedback, the kind you would like to receive yourself.  Praise is wonderful, but praise-only critiques, as we all know, are rare birds that we spot infrequently.  They are not a substitute for a thorough read and feedback.

And that’s it. Spread the word. And if you’ve got a new ten-minute, send it. Let’s get this thing rolling. You’ll get feedback AND meet a cool new playwright. What have you got to lose?

Theatre Southwest of Houston, Texas is now accepting entries from now until March 15, 2017 for the 20th Annual Theatre Southwest Festival of Originals! The TSW-FOO is FREE to enter and will once again be calling for short one act (20 minute) plays in any and all genres from all over the country and the world. Submission Guidelines:

Each playwright may submit up to 2 plays for consideration.

All entries should be unpublished and previously unproduced in the Houston area.

All Genres are accepted.

Monologues or One Actor plays are not accepted.

Plays should be 20 minutes in length (give or take a minute or two). Page count should be no less than 17, but no more than 22 pages.

There is no maximum limit of characters or sets, but common sense should be used as 5 plays will be produced in one evening.

Number all pages of the scripts, and scripts should be securely bound or stapled in the upper left hand corner.

Scripts must be submitted by postal mail ONLY. Emailed PDF or Word files will not be considered.

Be sure to include your contact information; phone number, email, and mailing address on the title page of the script.

List all characters with a brief character description.

Babes with Blades JS&P 2017-18

BWBTC’s international playwriting competition, founded in 2005 to increase the number of quality scripts featuring fighting roles for women. Since its inception, JS&P has been sponsored by Fight Master David Woolley, SAFD.

The winner receives the Margaret W. Martin Award: the play undergoes development via BWBTC’s Fighting Words program prior to premiering as part of an upcoming BWBTC season, and the playwright receives a $1,000 cash prize.The winner is chosen through a blind selection process: company members find out the identity of the playwright only after voting in the piece to be produced.

Use either one of the images below (or, if you’re feeling particularly art-y, both) as the basis for a new play that 1) features complex roles for women, and 2) explores staged violence as a storytelling tool.

JS&P 2017-18 Submission Guidelines

The winner of Joining Sword & Pen 2017-18 will receive the Margaret W. Martin Award:

The winning script will be workshopped through Fighting Words in 2017.
The winning script will be produced as part of Babes With Blades’ 2018-19 Season.
The winning playwright will receive a $1000 cash prize.

In order for their scripts to be considered, playwrights must observe and adhere to ALL of the following SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

1. Please email your submission in a PDF file to Delia Ford:

IMPORTANT: This will be a BLIND SUBMISSION PROCESS.
Your email submission should contain two separate attachments:

a) Your cover page. INCLUDE the play’s title, playwright’s name, and full contact information (name, phone numbers, email, mailing address).
b) Your script. INCLUDE a list of characters, and the page number where the contest’s image is incorporated. DO NOT INCLUDE ANY contact information, of any kind, in the body of your script. An author’s identity will only be revealed to the ensemble once a selection has been made.

2. Submissions are due NO LATER than March 9, 2017. By submitting a script, you are agreeing to adhere to the deadlines on the workshop and production schedule.

3. All submissions must be new, original works, inspired by the artwork that is the focus of the contest. Previously written, workshopped, published or performed submissions will not be considered and we will not contact you. Please do not insert the contest image into an existing script.

4. The moment depicted in the inspirational image must be physically dramatized/incorporated into the play. We want to (literally) perform that moment on stage. Please include the page number of your script where the contest’s image is depicted in your submission email.
Please note: the models in the inspirational images are intended as prompts, to provide an emotional starting point for your reference. You are NOT required to incorporate those specific people, body types, races, ages, etc. into your script – rather, take the moment depicted and make it your own.

5. Only FULL LENGTH submissions will be accepted: at least 60 pages (75-120 minutes) in length. Do not send incomplete submissions, excerpts, or a synopsis. They will be rejected.

6. Please include a list of characters. Both all-female and mixed-gender casts will be considered, but women must be in most/all of the primary roles, and women must be featured in most/all of the combat.

7. Scripts submitted will be considered the original creations of the authors, not Works for Hire. The author will retain all copyright rights and privileges granted thereto. If a winning script is subsequently published, we ask authors to note “Babes With Blades Theatre Company” as the original producing company.

8. Please let us know in your submission email where you heard about JS&P.

Additional Considerations

1. Physical conflict is a big part of what we do, so the inclusion of fights is important as long as they serve the story and the characters. Quantity is not key – quality is.

2. We typically perform in black box theatres on limited budgets, so less is often more. Scripts that require fewer than 12 actors and uncomplicated/limited scenery tend to work best for us.

Four Quarter Theater accepting 10 minute musicals

Four Quarter Theater, a NYC based theater ensemble, is currently accepting 10 minute musicals for our spring season Musicals.

In each quarter of the year, and aligning with the seasons, Four Quarter Theater aims to produce a new set of ten-minute plays. Each season is framed around a theme, which relates to the season in which the quarter falls. Each theme is open to artistic interpretation and is provided as a thematic framework to guide the playwright. The format of the performances will be staged readings in New York City.

Four Quarter Theater is currently accepting 10 minute musicals for our spring 2017 season Musicals. The term “musicals” is understood to include musicals, plays with music, thematic revues, or any comparable iteration.

Below please find our submission requirements and additional guidance to successfully submit your piece to Four Quarter Theater. Please note that playwrights are eligible to submit one piece per season only.

Submission Requirements and Eligibility

§ The musical must be a stand-alone musical and presentable in ten minutes.

§ Cast should not exceed 5 actors.

§ Submissions must include script and libretto/lead sheets/piano score in PDF format only.

§ Music files of songs are also needed and should be submitted in MP3 or MP4. Each song should be submitted separately or as one piece with labeled tracks. The submission of music can be as simple as composer singing tracks with piano. Please place all required music files in a shared folder or drop site (Drop Box, Google Drive) and send a folder link with submission.

§ Music for each piece will be performed live and should be able to be performed with a single piano.

§ There is a submission limit of one play per theme. The playwright must designate the theme submitted for in the subject line of the email (Musicals).

§ Original and never before produced musicals are highly encouraged.

Selection of Musicals

The play selection process is conducted by the Play Selection Committee. As many as seven plays are selected for each series (approximately 4 times a year). Only selected playwrights will be contacted. Plays not chosen for this quarter/year may be considered for future series if considered by the company to be theme appropriate.

Four Quarter Theater reserves the sole right to make all production decisions with regard to the plays selected. Four Quarter Theater reserves the right to photograph, audio and video record selected plays to be utilized for promotional materials; promotional video and audio recordings will only include clips of performances and never the full performance of the selected play. Any recordings will be shared with selected playwrights.

Four Quarter Theater is committed to highlighting work of emerging artists. There is no financial compensation for entries, nor is any financial commitment required by the playwright.

The Anna Zornio Children's Theatre Playwriting Award

The University of New Hampshire’s Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to announce the playwriting contest for new children’s plays and musicals. The University is offering 1) a cash prize, up to $500, to a winning playwright(s), and 2) either a staged, fully staged, or touring production as determined by the needs of UNH Theatre and Dance Department.

This award was created to honor the late Anna Zornio, an alumna of the University of New Hampshire, for her dedication to and inspiration of children’s theater playwriting.
Competition Guidelines

Contest registrations are due by March 1, 2017. The award will be administered by the Director of the UNH Theatre Education Program. The Department of Theatre and Dance will reserve the right to withhold the award if, in its opinion, no submissions merit the award. The award will be announced November, 2017. All candidates will be notified of the contest results.
The University of New Hampshire will not be able to offer feedback for submitted scripts.
Hard copy scripts, sheet music and CD’s will not be able to be mailed back.
The winning Playwright will be required to sign a letter of agreement giving permission for the University of New Hampshire to perform the play with no additional royalties or fees. The Playwright also agrees that any published version of the play will include the following statement: “Winner of The Anna Zornio Children's Theatre Playwriting Award through the Theatre and Dance Department at the University of New Hampshire.”
Rules for Entry

1. The contest is open to all playwrights residing in the United States and Canada.

2. All ages are invited to participate.

3. The contest is for new plays, with a maximum length of 60 minutes and suitable for young audiences (adults will perform for children.)

4. Plays submitted must not have been fully produced at the time of submission, though it may have been workshopped or done as a staged reading for the purpose of revision; previously produced winner of an award or prize in another playwriting contest; and must not be under contract for publication before UNH’s announcement of the award winner; DOES NOT EXCEED A SIXTY-MINUTE RUN TIME. A statement stipulating all of the above items MUST be included on the registration form.

5. Playwrights may submit more than one play, but not more than three.

6. Only digital copies of the scripts will be accepted (no hard copies).

7. Each submission should include:

description of characters
a statement of design/technical considerations (the producers particularly need to know if you intend a multi-location set or unit set design motif)

Only complete scripts will be considered; no excerpts from longer works.

Scripts must be original, unpublished, and not previously produced.

Each playwright may submit only one script per category. It is possible for a playwright to win in both categories.

Competition is open to adult playwrights around the English-speaking world. No juvenile writers.

Target audience: adults, including young adults.

Genre: comedy, drama, tragedy, farce, hybrid; theatrical storytelling. No monologues, children’s plays, adaptations, or musicals.

Cast may contain any number of characters of any race, ethnicity, or gender.

Theme and subject matter are open; however, excessively strong language is discouraged.

Winners will grant Festival 56 and Princeton Theatre Group first production rights. Playwrights retain copyright.

At least one One-Act and up to six Ten-Minute scripts will be selected for staged readings. Total number of winners will depend upon the number and range of submissions.

The decision of the judges is final. Judges will not provide any written or verbal critiques.

• Winning playwrights are strongly encouraged to attend their readings, although attendance is not a requirement for winning. If the playwright is present, a talkback with the audience and actors will immediately follow the reading of each script.

Type script with 1-inch margins on all four edges, using a 12-point serif type such as Times New Roman, Palatino, or Courier.

Do NOT put your real name on your script! On the first page of the script, under the title, put a pen name of your choice.
Use the script title as the name of this document.

Create a separate document giving your real name, address, email, phone, the title of your script, and either your real age or the statement “I am over 18.”
Use your pen name as the name of this document.
This document will not be opened until after winners have been selected.

Play Submission Guidelines

The play selection team is now accepting script submissions for consideration! If your submission is chosen, your play will be performed in July 2017 at CVLT’s River Street Playhouse. This is a “black box” environment which seats approximately 65 patrons. It has limited wing space, no fly system, and rudimentary lighting. Playwrights whose scripts are chosen will be contacted early in 2017.

• Plays must be received by no later than February 28, 2017. 
• You must be 18 years or older to submit a script.
• Scripts must be complete. Scenes from a full-length production or from other works cannot be accepted.
• Your show should have an estimated production “running time” of 10-12 minutes.
• Your script must be original – CVLT will not accept responsibility for copyright violations.
• CVLT reserves the right to choose directors for each play. You may not direct your own production.
• While the primary mission of The 10-10 is to introduce works that have not been read or produced in public, we are accepting previously produced/read scripts for consideration.
• You may submit multiple plays. We ask that you submit only your best scripts and keep the number of submissions to a reasonable amount.
• CVLT cannot compensate you for your submission, nor will you receive compensation if your script is chosen for production. Our actors and staff are volunteers. All proceeds from the production go to actual production costs and facility upkeep.
• CVLT will not produce, release, or distribute your work without permission.

UN-CHARTED NEW WORKS FESTIVAL

What is UN-Charted?

UN-Charted is a New Works Festival dedicated to giving playwrights, composers, librettists and lyricists an opportunity to have their work performed by professionals. Slated for the month of July, 2017, fifty miles north of Manhattan, under the stars on the Common at The Fairfield Museum in Fairfield, CT, Unquowa Repertory will present between two and four works that are in development and in need of an audience.

How does it work?

Selected writers will work daily with a director and company of Equity performers, as well as a music director, should the piece be a musical. A stipend, and transportation from NYC are provided for each artist selected. Writers who do not live in the NY Metro area should still apply as financial aid for transportation or housing may be available.

What can be submitted?

Submitted projects should be works in development and not have had a professional production prior to the UN-Charted Festival. We will consider both original and adapted works, providing that the rights to any material not in the public domain have been granted in writing and a copy has been included with the applicant’s materials.

How Do I Submit?

To apply for inclusion in the Festival, please have the following materials ready:

• A letter of introduction
• Contact information, i.e. email address, phone number, mailing address
• Biographical information for each member of the writing team
• Proof of rights, if the work is an adaptation of copyrighted material
• A synopsis (no more than one page, please)
• A character breakdown specifying age, gender and ethnicity (if important)
• The first 30 pages of the script/libretto

Important Dates

Unquowa Repertory will be accepting submissions until February 28th, 2017. If we feel your piece is a good fit for UN-Charted, we will request a full script and further demos by mid to late March. Final decisions for UN-Charted 2017 will be made by the end of April, 2017, when all applicants will receive an email either thanking you for your submission or inviting you to present at UN-Charted.
