Summer 2023 Online and In-Person Classes at Primary Stages ESPA!

Summer 2023 classes at Primary Stages ESPA are now open for enrollment! We’re excited to announce online AND in-person writing, acting, and directing classes. Here are just some of the classes in our lineup of opportunities in the writing department:

The First Draft
Instructors:
Matthew Paul Olmos (Writer, so go the ghost of mexico at La Mama)
Crystal Skillman (Writer, King Kirby)
Caridad Svich (Writer, OBIE Winner for Lifetime Achievement)
This class will guide you through the development of your first draft, providing concrete deadlines, constructive feedback, and a collaborative environment to get your ideas on the page.

Rewriting Your Draft
Instructors:
Mêlisa Annis (Writer, Director, Dramaturg; Faculty, NYU)
Stefanie Zadravec (Writer, The Electric Baby)
As soon as you finish your last line of dialogue, the need for rewrites begins. This class will help you tackle the revision process and develop a stronger version of your play.

Fundamentals of Playwriting
Instructor: Brittany K. Allen (Writer and Actor, Redwood at Portland Center Stage, Kilroy's List)
Build a toolbox of the fundamentals, so your first play (and each play you write after that!) can be built on a strong foundation.

Comedy Writing
Instructor: Kate Moira Ryan (Writer (with Judy Gold), 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother and The Judy Show at Primary Stages and DR2)
Study the specialized set of rules for comedy to infuse your playwriting with smart, well-structured comedic elements.

TV Writing
Instructor: Daniel Talbott (Writer, "The Conners"; Artistic Director, Rising Phoenix Rep)
Learn the structure and language of television writing to develop a first draft of your pilot.

TV Writing 2
Instructor: Daniel Talbott (Writer, "The Conners"; Artistic Director, Rising Phoenix Rep)
For experienced TV Writers or those who have taken TV Writing at ESPA, take a deeper dive into the structure and language of tv writing while you create or refine your pilot and embark on writing your first season.
