The First Draft

This class will guide you through the development of your first draft, providing concrete deadlines, constructive feedback, and a collaborative environment to get your ideas on the page.

Rewriting Your Draft

Instructor: Stefanie Zadravec (Writer, The Electric Baby at Two River)
As soon as you finish your last line of dialogue, the need for rewrites begins. This class will help you tackle the revision process and develop a stronger version of your play.

Writing “Hot” Plays

Instructor: Adam Kraar (Writer, Alternating Currents at The Working Theatre, Dancing On The Edge at Theatre Novi Most)

"Hot scenes" are the building blocks of good plays: scenes where characters are pushed beyond their comfort zones and compelled to make revealing choices. This class will focus on dreaming up, drafting, and developing these exciting scenes.

TV Writing

Instructor: Daniel Talbott (Writer, "The Conners" and "The Mist"; Artistic Director, Rising Phoenix Rep)
Learn the structure and language of television writing to develop a first draft of your pilot.

Short Form Screenwriting

Instructor: Daniel Talbott (Writer, "The Conners" and "The Mist"; Artistic Director, Rising Phoenix Rep)
Apply the concepts of character development, visual storytelling, theme, plot, and dialogue to your own original short film script.

Workshop: Kinetic Energy

Instructor: Winter Miller (Writer, In Darfur at The Public Theater, No One Is Forgotten at Rattlestick)
This workshop will toss you headlong into your play, set into motion by Winter.

Workshop: Eclipse Yourself!

Instructor: Winter Miller (Writer, In Darfur at The Public Theater, No One Is Forgotten at Rattlestick)
Let's find out what's obscuring your play from you by asking your characters to tell you their stories. In this writing intensive workshop, you'll write monologues and scenes to reveal what's been hidden.

Classes begin in October. Start and end dates vary. Click here for the full list of writing classes.
