SUBMISSION FORM

Clutch Productions is now accepting submissions of original one-act plays and short screenplays by women writers to be considered for the 2022 empowHER Reading Series!

This series is dedicated to work created by BIPOC women artists who reside in Upper Manhattan. This includes West Harlem, Washington Heights or Inwood (W135th to W155th St from Edgecombe Ave west to the Hudson River; W155th St to W220th St river-to-river).

Harkening back to the roots of the empowHER Reading Series in 2016, the theme for this year is: what is at stake for women in the 2022 election cycle?

We encourage you to submit your work, and pass this info on to other writers who would be interested too.

Three performances are scheduled for late October. Venue TBA.

Guidelines:

At least 50% of the roles in each play must be for women. Writers are encouraged to explore all sides of the issues to reflect the authentic debate of our time.

Scripts should be less than 20 pages in length.

No previous productions of the script. We seek original, responsive work.

Prior to the public reading series, selected scripts will undergo a rehearsal-based workshop with dramaturgical support. All performances will take place in Manhattan, and be free to the public. A $250 stipend is available for each selected writer.

Submissions are due September 5, 2022 and MUST include:
  • Full script(s) as a PDF
  • Cover letter
  • Writer’s bio
