Frequently Asked Questions:

Does the festival cover my travel?

Unfortunately, we do not. We explore as many options as we can and work with each playwright on an individual basis to try and offer as much as we can. In past festivals we have been able to offer per diems for the duration of your stay with us, but we often aren't able to definitively say yes or no until a couple months out from each festival.

Will the festival consider more than one piece I've written?

Due to the overwhelming amount of submissions we've received in recent years we are limiting our submissions to one piece per playwright this year, so pick your best one and we will be happy to read it!

Will the festival be in person this year or online?

Obviously our preference is to have a festival in person where we can all be in a room and focus on the work together, however, given the uncertainty we all find ourselves in due to COVID 19 we have to do what we believe is safest for all artists involved and we will make our decision with regard to this matter at a later date. When we do, the artists involved will be the first to know!

Please Note: Due to our geographic location we are not always able to provide experienced readers of every scripted demographic, if this is the case with a selected play we will work with the playwright to reach the possible casting outcome most desirable to the playwright.

Does the festival accept short plays?

We accept all lengths of play for consideration.

Does the festival accept produced plays?

Although we are willing to consider plays that have had workshop productions as a part of the script-writing process, the Women's Work Festival is focused on the development of unproduced works.
