A.D. Players at The George Theater in Houston, TX seeks full length scripts to be developed and presented over the course of the first annual Metzler New Works Festival. The purpose of the festival is to present new American plays and musicals that contribute to the larger cultural understanding of how faith and storytelling can effectively intertwine in alignment with our mission to present and premiere work from a Christian worldview that engages a diverse audience. Three selected works will be developed over the course of two workshops, followed by a publicly presented staged reading with professional actors and directors; selected playwrights will receive an honorarium, and the possibility of premiering their work at one of the largest theatre companies in the city of Houston.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
We will NOT accept plays that have received a professional production
If you wish to submit a musical, please submit recordings of the music
Writers must be available to attend the Metzler New Works Festival, March 31-April 4, 2020 in Houston, Texas
Submissions will be capped at 350 plays
The submission period ends August 15, 2019
HOW TO SUBMIT:
We will be employing a blind submissions process. Please do not include any identifying information in your script
Plays must be submitted as a pdf in standard playwriting format saved as “PlayTitle_MNWF2020.pdf” and emailed to Newworks@adplayers.org
Please include a separate cover page with the title, contact information, and a brief biography of the playwright saved as “Last,First_Title_MNWF2020.pdf”
Mailed submissions will not be accepted

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- This opportunity is open to US Playwrights/Librettists/Bookwriters only
- We are seeking full-length plays (60 pages or more) with a cast size of no more than 15
- Open to all styles and genres, keeping in mind that A.D. Players’ mission is to produce compelling theatre, from a Christian world-view, that engages a diverse audience. Minor language and challenging content are acceptable
- A.D. Players at the George Theatre highly encourages individuals of diverse ethnic backgrounds, racial and gender identities, and abilities to submit
- Playwrights are not required to identify as Christian
- Previous readings and workshops are acceptable
- Plays previously produced by universities or community theatres (in which artists were not paid) are acceptable
