BVT New Works Initiative

web site

Bristol Valley Theater, a professional summer theater located in Naples, NY is accepting submissions for the BVT New Works Initiative which seeks to introduce our audience to new theatrical voices and to help create new works for the American Stage.

Each year, the Initiative consists of three staged readings of works in various stages of development as well as one fully staged world premiere production. The BVT New Works Initiative has received support from The Wilson Foundation and the Dramatists Guild Fund.

Past World Premiere productions include:
"Elijah" by Judith Leora (2017)
"The Cookie Fight" by Judith Leora (2016)
"Who Is Theo?" by David L. Kimple (2015)

If you are a playwright with a new work that you would like to be considered for the BVT New Works Initiative, we are accepting submissions of full length plays and musicals.

Submissions should be of previously un-produced material - plays that have received readings and workshops are acceptable.

Playwrights should email a copy of the play AND a one page synopsis, including character breakdown, to bvt@bvtnaples.org

Additionally, if your play is a musical, please submit a link to a sample of the musical score or a cd sample of the music.

Be sure to place NEW WORKS INITIATIVE SUBMISSION in the email's subject line.

If you prefer to submit via U. S. post, mail to
ATTN: New Works Submission,
BVT, PO Box 218, Naples, NY 14512.

Manuscripts cannot be returned. Plays are considered on a rolling review basis. Playwrights will be contacted if we are interested in moving forward. No phone calls, please.

Submissions will be considered for both staged readings and full production. Participation in readings does not indicate a guarantee of future production.

Compensation is as follows:

For readings, playwrights will receive a small stipend as well as round-trip travel (via Megabus) to and from NYC as well as housing accommodations in Naples for a few days leading up to the reading date. BVT will provide rehearsal space, a director and a cast of actors drawn from our professional company. Writers are expected to participate in a post-reading discussion with the audience and may be asked to participate in another community engagement event, to be determined on a case-by-case basis.

For full productions, playwrights will receive a guarantee of $1000 against a percentage of the box office revenue. Our contract has been reviewed by the Dramatists Guild.

Round-trip travel and housing accommodations are provided in order to allow the writer to be in residence for a portion of the rehearsal period and for the play's Opening. Writers will be asked to participate in an Opening Night reception and may be asked to participate in another community engagement event, to be determined on a case-by-case basis. Plays will run for a total of 10 performances and will be supported by a professional director, design team, production staff and cast as well as a production budget equal to all other productions in our Main Stage season.
