Freshwater Theatre Company is now accepting script submissions for our Festival of Awkward Moments, running in rep with our production of Desperation Panties at the Gremlin Theatre, May 6-22, 2011.

A Festival of Awkward Moments will run on the following dates and times:
5/8 @ 7:00pm
5/15@ 7:00pm
5/19@ 7:30pm
5/22 @ 7:00pm

The tech will be held at the Gremlin Theatre on 5/7 at 10:00am, with a possible second tech the morning of 5/8 at 10:00am if necessary.

For this festival, we define an awkward moment as “something you would not want to live through but would stop to watch.” Scripts must be 1-7 minutes long and require minimal actors and sets. Scripts will be reviewed and selected by the Awkward Moments Play Committee. Payment will not be issued for any play that is produced, but playwrights’ names will be recognized in the playbill and publicity materials. Scripts may be emailed to submissions@freshwatertheatre.com. Deadline for submissions is March 4, 2011.

We are also accepting applications for directors for A Festival of Awkward Moments. This is an unpaid position but directors’ names will be recognized in the playbill and publicity materials. Directors can send their resumes with a cover letter to info@freshwatertheatre.com. Deadline for applications is March 4, 2011. All directors selected must be available for an introductory meeting on March 26, 2011, 1-2PM.

Directors will be responsible for all casting, providing a rehearsal space, and what minimal props and costumes they find necessary for the scene. We will be happy to help in the procurement of some of these items, but most of it is up to the director and their actors. Actors performing in the pieces will not be paid, but will receive credit in the program.

Once directors and scripts are selected, directors will be sent electronic copies all of the scripts on our shortlist to rank in a top five list to be sent back to Freshwater Theatre. From there, Freshwater will pair the director with the script they are to direct. While every effort will be made to pair directors with scripts in their top five, we reserve the right to assign a play outside of that list as needed.
