New Plays for Young Audiences seeks new unpublished and unproduced full-length play scripts

web site

New Plays for Young Audiences seeks new unpublished and unproduced full-length play scripts for young audiences for our 22nd season, June 2019. The final date that submissions for 2019 will be accepted is October 31, 2018.

Submission Guidelines:

In your email submission, please include your name, the name of the play, and where we can contact you.

Also include in your submission your goals for the week of development – questions about the script you hope to answer, characters you want to further develop, story areas you want to look closer at, etc. Scripts received without goals are automatically disqualified, as this is an important part of our process.

If you are submitting an adaptation, we ask that you include proof that the original author has agreed to you adapting their work.

Finally, also rank, from most to least preferred, the development week that works best for you. We cannot guarantee a preferred slot, but this information will help facilitate the scheduling process once scripts are selected. The 2019 series is slated to run in three one-week segments: June 2-9, June 9-16, and June 16-23.

Please note that we only accept previously unpublished and unproduced full-length play scripts. If your script has had a fully produced production, we cannot accept it. We accept musical submissions, but do not generally develop a musical every season. If you are uncertain if your script meets this requirement or believe there is cause for an exemption, feel free to contact us (David Montgomery or Teresa Fisher).

We welcome scripts of any cast size, but are limited to 10 actors due to the size of our stage. If your script requires more than 10 actors, include doubling suggestions with your submission.

To submit your new previously unpublished and unproduced play for young audiences for consideration in our 2019 series, send your script between July 1 and October 31, 2018, to Producer/Production Manager, Teresa Fisher - taf263@nyu.edu

We reply to all submissions within 7 days of receiving them.

ELIGIBILITY
Entry must be an original work (NO musicals or plays for children) that has not been published or produced where admission was charged prior to FutureFest 2019. Staged readings/workshop productions are not necessarily disqualifying factors.

After the title page include a brief synopsis, character breakdown, setting, and scene breakdown, if applicable. Your script(s) should be accompanied by a cover letter, including playwright contact information (address, phone #, e-mail address) and resume.  If applicable, also submit a photocopy of your Dramatists Guild membership card.

COFFEE & WHISKEY PRODUCTIONS (Chicago) seeks plays

web site

— SCRIPT PUB SUBMISSIONS ARE CURRENTLY OPEN
SUBMISSION WINDOW CLOSES ON OCTOBER 30, 2018 —

Are you a playwright with a new full-length thing (between, say, 75 and 100-ish pages) that you want to hear read aloud by talented actors? Are you ready to take the next step in your play’s development? Well we want to hear from you! Coffee & Whiskey Productions is now accepting submissions on a rolling basis for the Coffee & Whiskey Script Pub, our play reading series. We’re interested in everything– if it’s unproduced and entertaining, send it our way. We have no restrictions on content, no problems with your goddamned potty mouth, and don’t mind genre work. We only want to make some of the best freakin’ theatre out there, whatever form it takes. We especially delight in all things funny, off-beat, and just plain weird, but we’re ready to tackle whatever you’ve got. Sci-fi? No problem! Magical Realism? Can do! Gritty Family Drama? Bring it! Wagnerian Epic about Joe Paterno descending the Nine Levels of Nittany Lion Hell*? Sure, why the hell not!

(Oh, one very important thing to note: we can’t do musicals at this time. If your play has a song or two, we can probably work with it, but full on musical theatre is out. Sorry!)

Please send all script submissions electronically, to scripts [at] coffeeandwhiskeyproductions [dot] com; use the subject line “Script Pub Submission: [title of the play]”, so we know what to do with it. Be sure to include a synopsis of the play, as well as a brief bio and contact information. We prefer the PDF format, but if you have some kind of ethical issue with that, just let us know and we’ll see what we can finagle. We try to respond as quickly as possible to all submissions, but give us 8 weeks (well, 8-sh; call it two months) to review your work. If it’s been more than a couple of months and you haven’t heard back from us, please send us a friendly follow up inquiry. And if you have any questions at all about the process, the Script Pub, or Coffee & Whiskey in general, feel free to shoot us an email, or contact us on Facebook.

Good Luck, and see you at the Script Pub!

*THIS WOULD BE AMAZING PLEASE SEND THIS TO US IMMEDIATELY

New Perspectives Short Play Lab

web site

The WOMEN’S WORK LAB for short plays provides a supportive and nurturing environment to emerging and mid-career women playwrights. Six members are selected each year, along with a similar number of directors. The LAB meets monthly (Sundays) from February through June, allowing for time in between sessions for writers to continue to develop and revise their work in response to feedback. Members are expected to bring work to each session beginning with the development of an original short play based upon an assigned theme. Playwrights receive monthly feedback on their play from the LAB’s group of director/dramaturgs. In a process unique to NPTC, feedback is given in a unified manner so playwrights do not have conflicting advice about what to work on. The process creates a collaborative group from which members can draw inspiration and energy. Scripts are then produced in our annual Women's Work Short Play Festival.

SHORT PLAY LAB APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Playwrights should apply by midnight, October 15, 2018 by sending the following as email attachments, with the email Subject Line “Women’s Work Application” to contact@nptnyc.org:
  • a full resume, including specific information on your training as a writer (i.e. degree program, workshops, etc.) and website URL if applicable
  • a 10-15 page writing sample from a playscript
  • a personal statement explaining why you wish to be a part of the LAB, including goals for your own growth and development if selected. Please include in this statement how you choose to be identified re: ethnicity and gender (she/they).
(Please note that ALL 3 items are required to be considered.)

Directors: A group of four to six directors is also chosen as part of the LAB. Directors commit to reading and commenting on all scripts before each meeting, and to being present at all monthly meetings, where consolidated feedback is given to each playwright. The short plays from the LAB are produced in "minimalist" productions in early August. Casting begins in June, with rehearsals in July. Decisions about who is directing which play are made by the directors as a group in May.

Feels Blind Literary welcomes submissions of plays from women

web site

Feels Blind Literary welcomes submissions of short fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, plays, and art from new and emerging writers and artists who identify as women.

Submissions for Issue #1 will be open until October 1, 2018 and should be sent to feelsblindliterary@gmail.com. Please put in your subject line the category to which you're submitting.

The theme for our inaugural online issue is community. Communities and the people in them thrive when we are better connected and we are interested in work that touches on the importance of community, space/place, and connection. Work that isn't specific to our theme is welcome as well, though.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw the work immediately if accepted elsewhere.

Submissions must be previously unpublished, original works.

We will do our best to respond to each submission within 60 days. If 60 days has passed, please send us an inquiry at feelsblindliterary@gmail.com. We will try our best to respond much sooner and strive to provide feedback on each entry.

Short Fiction: Send one story up to 7000 words.

Flash Fiction: Send one story up to 1000 words.

Creative Non-Fiction: Send one personal essay or memoir up to 5000 words.

Plays: Send one one-act play up to 10 pages.

Poetry: Send 3-5 poems. If spoken word, send 1-3 recordings.
.
Art & Music: We are open to all mediums and genres. For art work, submissions must be adaptable to accommodate the space, so send us your work in a minimum of 300 ppi.

While we won't know exactly what we like until we see it, we do like honest, accessible work. Things that are overly abstract or don't make readers feel something don't do it for us. We want you to make us laugh and/or cry. We want you to challenge us as readers. We want your work to pass the Bechdel Test. We will not tell you which writers we worship, though we will tell you we don't worship Raymond Carver, Ernest Hemingway, or John Updike.

Rights revert to the author upon publication. While we  cannot pay contributors at this time, we hope this changes in the future.
