Three to four original, full-length plays (under 120 pages preferred) will be selected and given staged readings. Plays that reflect upon social justice and human rights themes, or that address current socio-political and/or environmental challenges will be given priority.
Thanks to the enthusiasm of our base community last season, BNWorks 2019 will return to private living rooms in Ditmas Park Brooklyn between January 2019 and May 2019. Plays must be un-produced, but previously staged readings/workshops are not disqualifying factors. Chosen playwrights will receive a small stipend.
Brave New World Rep is committed to giving a platform to voices and stories from underrepresented and historically disenfranchised communities. Black, Latinx, Asian/Asian-American, POC, Indigenous, Muslim, immigrant, trans, LGBTQA+, gender non-conforming, differently abled, femme and/or female-identifying playwrights are HIGHLY encouraged to submit. Brooklyn-based playwrights will also be given first consideration.
To submit, please send an electronic copy of your script in PDF format with numbered pages to submissions@bravenewworldrep.org. In a separate document or in the body of your submission email, please also include a short synopsis of your play, a brief bio, and a website link (if relevant to your work as a writer/theater artist.) Entry is limited to one play per season.
The deadline for consideration for the 2019 BNW Reading Series is October 1st 2018, however submissions are accepted all year-round, with the potential of being considered for future opportunities. Only playwrights who are selected will be notified.
