Fall 2023 Online and In-Person Classes at Primary Stages ESPA!

Fall 2023 classes at Primary Stages ESPA are open for enrollment! We’re excited to announce online AND in-person writing, acting, and directing classes. Here are just some of the classes in our lineup of opportunities in the writing department:

The First Draft - In-Person and Online!

Instructors:
Mêlisa Annis (Writer, Director, Dramaturg; Faculty, NYU)

This class will guide you through the development of your first draft, providing concrete deadlines, constructive feedback, and a collaborative environment to get your ideas on the page.

Rewriting Your Draft

Instructor: Stefanie Zadravec (Writer, The Electric Baby)

As soon as you finish your last line of dialogue, the need for rewrites begins. This class will help you tackle the revision process and develop a stronger version of your play.

Fundamentals of Playwriting

Instructors:
Tasha Gordon-Solmon (Writer and Director; Faculty, NYU Tisch Dramatic Writing Program)
Calamity West (Writer, Roundabout/Underground, The Goodman, Williamstown)
Build a toolbox of the fundamentals, so your first play (and each play you write after that!) can be built on a strong foundation.
10-Minute Plays and One Acts - In Person!

Instructor: Adam Kraar (Writer, Wild Terrain at EST)

Learn how to distill a compelling story into the shortest possible dramatic form, think outside of the box of structure, and be well on your way to compiling a portfolio of several submission-ready short plays.

TV Writing

Instructor: Daniel Talbott (Writer, "The Conners"; Artistic Director, Rising Phoenix Rep)

Learn the structure and language of television writing to develop a first draft of your pilot.

Screenwriting

Instructor: Daniel Talbott (Writer, "The Conners"; Artistic Director, Rising Phoenix Rep)

Explore the components of screenwriting, particularly focusing on structure, form, and language, and begin to develop a first draft of your screenplay.
