For spring/summer 2023, City Fox Books is looking to publish a limited series of full-length plays written for stage. We would like to see plays which are unconventional, and are particularly interested in plays which are surreal, experimental, absurdist, existentialist or politically subversive in nature.
Plays must have at least 2 characters.
Up to 110 pages.
Publication with us is an adventure. As a small press, we are big believers in making personal connections with our authors and with our community, from independent bookstores in London to book fairs across the country. We have a small catalogue which allows us to pay a lot of attention to our authors, and we sell books online and in person. City Fox Books are in a very fortunate position as we are able to take a chance on books that might be turned down by other more commercial presses. Most of our books are published initially as limited-edition short runs of usually about 50 copies. Once we have sold all of those, we reissue the book as a second edition.
Royalties:
We believe in being transparent about money, as the majority of the publishing industry so often isn’t.
As we are a small press, we cannot offer an advance for publication.
We are not making a profit, and we are publishing books for the love of it, and to provide a place for weird literature in an increasingly commercialised and homogenised publishing market. All the money left over after we have paid printing/website/shipping costs will go back into the press to enable us to offer more opportunities for writers and artists in future.
If you publish with us, we can offer you a few free author copies, and if you would like more for an event, you can buy them from us a heavily discounted rate.
After 50 copies of your book have been sold through us, we will offer you 50% royalties on all future sales of your book.
