Deadline: May 31, 2023
Festival Dates: September 9th and 10th at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood, New Jersey.
There will be between 6-12 plays chosen to perform. Each play will receive one performance on either Saturday or Sunday night.
This is a DIY festival. There is no participation fee, but each playwright will be responsible for all aspects of production, including (but not limited to) finding rehearsal space, casting, and directing. The theater, marketing, the box office, and tech (lights/sound) will be provided. We may be able to suggest actors and directors for certain pieces, but we make no guarantees about being able to staff your show.
Any playwright over 18 can submit, but playwrights either from or currently residing in New Jersey will be given special consideration.
In Death's Company engages in theatre of a darker tone, addressing difficult themes and concepts. We are looking for pieces that align with our mission to promote diverse voices in theater.
Limit two submissions per playwright. No submission fee. Original works only. We are not looking for children’s plays or musicals.
Playwrights will be notified around June 15th if their play has been selected.
