Stages makes plays and tells stories that invite everyone to live more deeply and love more boldly. We are Houston's premiere mid-sized theater, and produce a broad scope of plays and musicals ranging from jukebox musicals and family entertainment to world premieres and new work by emerging writers. We are committed to telling stories by and for traditionally excluded communities.
We utilize a volunteer Season Selection Committee comprised of staff members hailing from all of our departments. We are committed to expanding timelines for creative teams, and are reading now with an eye for productions 2+ years away.
In an effort to strike a balance between our resources and our dedication to supporting diverse voices, we have an open submission policy for the months of April and May.
-Playwrights with and without agents are welcome to submit during that time frame.
-Scripts sent after May 31st will be held until the following window opens.
-We ask that you please submit only one script. (Occasionally, we will find a playwright's work inspiring, yet know a specific piece is not for Stages. In those instances, we might reach out to you for additional work to consider.)
-Please do not submit new drafts of previously submitted work unless you are invited to do so.
Depending on the overall number of submissions, you will hear from us again between June and December. Thank you in advance for your patience and your story.
