2023 Scranton Fringe Festival: Call for proposals

Website

Deadline: May 5, 2023 11:59PM EDT

SUBMISSION FORM - requires Google account

Scranton Fringe is an award-winning arts organization producing innovative work since 2015. Fringe is dedicated to creating a bold, engaging platform for thought-provoking art while striving to promote Northeast Pennsylvania as a viable creative environment. Inspired by the world's largest annual event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, our organization has grown into an incubator of unique creative work centered around the performing arts.

Scranton Fringe is now accepting applications for proposed works of theater / performing arts and other types of creative projects from independent artists and cultural groups from across Northeast PA and beyond for the 2023 Festival!

WHEN?

The 2023 Scranton Fringe Festival will be held Thursday, September 28th thru Sunday, October 8th in venues across downtown Scranton, PA (USA).

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We want bold work for brave audiences - ANY and all creative works should apply for consideration. Theater, music, comedy, dance, film, performance art, and much more is welcome at the Scranton Fringe Festival!

We are looking for: creative projects that engage a wide range of community, new takes on old works; newly created theater pieces; quirky, unusual, vibrant, and creative theater; online/virtual works of the performing arts, cabaret; dance; comedy: puppetry; magic; musicals; immersive theater; circus; solo shows, children’s programming, Site-Specific performances, public art installations, creative workshops, and any other type of public creative programming.

The specific nature of each partnership for those who are invited to join the 2023 Scranton Fringe Festival will vary in regards to venue, technical support, scheduling, finances and more. Each artist/group offered a space within the 2023 Scranton Fringe Festival will (virtually) meet with Festival leadership and have an active role in crafting the details of their respective contracts.

Production Fees:

Scranton Fringe charges each project a set production fee (determined by # of performances /venue and tech needs, etc.) and then returns 70% of ticket sales (tickets are set at $15 per show) to the production. Fringe subsidizes a great deal of the costs associated with presenting the festival so artists can produce their work affordably. Typically, a total production fee wouldn’t pay for the rental cost at most of our venues - not to mention the tech, box office, marketing support, insurances, etc. that Fringe provides for our artists.

Production fees for 2023 are as follows:

$90 per performance (small/medium venues)
$125 per performance (large venues)

Fringe reserves the right for alterations to the fee structure depending on venue needs, sponsorships, and show requirements. However, EVERY accepted production will have a chance to review their final total fee with festival staff before locking into a contract.

Scranton Fringe is proud to once again not charge any fees for these applications/live event proposals.

COVID:

Please note per our safety policy at this time all artists, producers and volunteers who wish to present any work indoors during the 2023 Scranton Fringe Festival will be asked to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 before contracts are finalized.

HOUSING:
Please note Fringe is not likely able to help you secure free local housing for the 2023 Fringe Festival. We will provide discount codes for at least one (1) local hotel, but due to circumstances out of our control, access to free housing for the 2023 Festival is extremely limited.

This application will close on Friday, May 5th (11:59 pm eastern). All submissions must be completed online via the below form. Please contact Scranton Fringe via email (info@scrantonfringe.org) if you have any questions or need any help!
