New Online Writing Classes at Primary Stages ESPA!

Our new Online Classes at Primary Stages ESPA are now open for enrollment! We know that the world is different right now, but we believe that there are ways to have community and hone your craft while social distancing - and we’ve recreated our classes to be available and useful for you in an online format. Even though we are socially distant, we won’t let you be isolated. Here are just some of the classes in our lineup of opportunities in the writing department:

Instructor: Winter Miller (Writer, In Darfur at The Public Theater, No One Is Forgotten at Rattlestick)
Tuesdays from 9:00am – 12:00pm ET
Starts April 28
This online class will guide you through the development of your first draft, providing concrete deadlines, constructive feedback, and a collaborative environment that will encourage you to get your ideas on the page.

Instructor: MĂȘlisa Annis (Writer, Director, and Dramaturg; Faculty, NYU Tisch)
Thursdays from 11:00am – 2:00pm ET
Starts April 23
Build a toolbox of the fundamentals, so your first play (and each play you write after that!) can be built on a strong foundation.

Instructor: Daniel Talbott (Writer, "The Conners" and "The Mist"; Artistic Director, Rising Phoenix Rep)
Mondays from 7pm – 10pm ET
Starts April 20
Screenwriting is a specialized craft with its own set of dramatic writing principles. Apply the concepts of visual storytelling, theme, plot, and dialogue to your own original script.

Instructor: Winter Miller (Writer, In Darfur at The Public Theater, No One Is Forgotten at Rattlestick)
Part 1: April 25 & 26
Part 2: May 2 & 3
10am – 2pm ET
Sometimes it’s inevitable: writers just get stuck. Part 1 of this workshop will inspire you to get cracking on your next play and generate material. If you want to challenge yourself to keep writing and take a deeper dive into the work, Part 2 will delve into character development.

Instructor: John Gould Rubin (Director, Turn Me Loose Off-Broadway; former Co-Artistic Director and Executive Director of LAByrinth Theater Company)
Tuesdays from 6pm – 8pm
Starts April 21
This class is for theater artists of any discipline to learn about theater as a business in order to produce your own work and better understand the priorities for your work no matter your role within a production.

Classes begin next week. Start and end dates vary. Click here for the full list of online classes.
