COCAwrites: Plays on Zoom!

web site

Deadline: April 27, 2020, Midnight
We want you to write a play for Zoom! As COCA prepares to launch its new Theatre PPD program this fall, we’re giving you a taste of the new playwriting opportunities for students!

ALSO ACCEPTING PLAYS FROM ADULTS

We’re inspired by theatre companies around the country & locally that have brought forward some incredible opportunities including our partner, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, who has launched The Play at Home series in collaboration with theatres around the country.

We are asking for submissions of plays written with Zoom in mind. Plays will be accepted until April 27 at midnight. Ages 12-22.

After that, a panel will select the top plays to be rehearsed and performed by a professional STL director and actors on May 1 in a world premiere event!

How to Submit Your Work:
  • Write a scene, 5-10 minutes or less (a general rule of thumb is 1 page=1 minute) for Zoom! following these guidelines:
  • 3 characters or less
  • The play will be pre-recorded but must take place on Zoom
  • Stay between 5 & 10 minutes
  • Have fun with all the possibilities available when writing a digital play
Please submit your plays and any questions along the way to Delaney Piggins, Artistic Engagement Manager at dpiggins@cocastl.org.

Keep an eye on this page for updates on submission and performance of these plays on May 1.

We encourage you to get inspired by Nancy Bell’s play MUTE. Read it and think, how can I write a play with Zoom in mind?

And keep an eye out for a new playwriting class to help you write and develop your work! This class is a preview to what’s to come for the new Theatre PPD program this fall!

We are now accepting plays written by adult playwrights for audiences of all ages. We are also accepting plays written for Zoom from students ages 12-22.
