Opportunity for staged readings in the Manhattan.

We accept scripts between 20 and 60 minutes long.

Deadline: February 21, 2016

Submission accepted from everywhere in the US
Shows from outside NY and NJ can only run if the entire cast is from New York City.
Submissions must be between 20 and 60 minutes long.

How to Submit your work to Manhattan Reading Competition 2016

In order to submit a play please send the following via email:
1. A 100 word synopsis of the play
2. The complete script + character breakdown
3. Your telephone number and home address, plus the phone number of
one other person in your production that we can contact
4. Your bio.
5. All genres of shows are welcome to submit to our festivals.
6. All Plays and Musicals must never have had a reading in the Tristate area.

As soon as your play is accepted, you will be sent the festival guidelines. All plays will be given a reading at the theater.

The Winner will be announced during a special prize ceremony at the end of the Reading Competition on March 10/2016


There is no fee to submit your play to the Manhattan Reading Competition.

If your play is accepted you will be asked a $200 deposit which will be returned to you the same day of the staging of your reading.

This competition has no hidden costs. Again, there is no submission fee. Only those plays that are accepted will be required to send the deposit check. Submissions will be accepted until February 21, 2016.

Your reading will be staged in one of the most beautiful venues in NYC: a 99-seat theater with
fixed red upholstered seats and six spaces for wheelchairs.

A 23′ x 29′ stage where up to 25 actors can fits comfortably.

Ideal for playwrights who wish to stage an exciting, live reading using any of the 55 props we offer for free.

For those who would like more than lights up and down, we have 55 lights that can paint the setting of your play, which one of our tech directors will set up for you before your reading

For readings of musicals we offer an electric piano and a great sound system should you need microphones or soundtracks for your singing/reading.

We also offer 10 chairs and 10 reading stands.

You will not need to bring anything to the theater
except your craft and artistry.

All readings will be offered a prime performance time
and will be staged between March 29 and March 6, 2016.

The theater is used by our winter festival, which is
one of the most successful festivals in the country.

The 5 best plays will be automatically accepted into our Thespis Summerfest 2016 from reading to staging.
