Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company Seeking Submissions for In Our Home: Brooklyn Pride

web site

Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company will be presenting its Second Annual In Our Home project for a weekend in June 2013 in celebration of Pride Week.  We are currently seeking one act-plays that examine the gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered experience which takes place in a specific room in a home (kitchen, living room, bedroom, etc).

Our criteria for submission to the project is broadly interpreted to include works by gay writers, works that have a gay relevance or theme, works that include either performance or other artistic contribution by LGBTA people. We seek material that deal with issues or characters that are identified as gay/lesbian/transgendered or contain a gay sensibility.

Submission packet must include:
• A 5-12 page long play (should be 15 minutes max) with an optimum cast size of 2-4 people. The submitted script must be the script proposed for presentation, with no major alterations necessary.

  • A Submissions inquiry letter (one page only) which must include:
  • Brief history of the work
  • Cast size & character breakdown
  • Synopsis of the piece

All submissions must be submitted electronically to our submissions department: MDGSubmissions@moderndaygriot.org.

The deadline for submissions is April 29, 2013, 5pm EST and the final line-up will be announced in May 2013.

Only one entry per playwright will be accepted. You will be contacted should we wish to invite participation to the In Our Home project. Neither fax nor paper submissions will be accepted and absolutely NO phone calls.

Please note that due to high volume of inquiries, response time is usually 3-6 weeks and while Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company cannot offer royalties we can offer a production opportunity.
