Variations Theatre Group, Inc (VTG) is proud to announce its Unchained Theatre Festival as part of our core mission, namely, to provide an opportunity for artists to develop new, arresting work.

DETAILS
The festival will run for three weeks starting from May 18th, 2013 at our brand new Chain Theatre in Long Island City, NY. Each play will be given four showings, and  votes from a panel of judges and audience will decide which plays which will be shown at the final performance.

Awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Ensemble, and Best Play will be presented on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 at7pm.

You may submit up to two (2) plays/applications for the festival. Plays can be submitted in one of two categories: Short Plays (under 30 minutes) and Long Plays (30 minutes to 60 minutes). Submissions should be sent by email to submissions@variationstheatregroup.com. Please include a completed application form, a character breakdown of your play, and a copy of your piece. We will accept either PDF or word documents.

If your piece is chosen to participate in the festival there is a non-refundable production fee of $200.00 for a short play and $400.00 for a longer play, to be paid immediately upon acceptance.  This fee will defray some of the expenses for publicity, ticketing, theater management and space rental incurred by us.

Each production will receive two (2) complimentary tickets to the Awards Ceremony/Final Performance.  Each production will also receive an advance code to sell tickets with and a  percentage of those ticket sales will be given back to the production. There will be six (6) weeks between announcement of selection and performance but we urge all productions to be prepared upon acceptance.

All playwrights are responsible for producing their own individual plays. Variations Theatre Group will assist with finding actors, directors, and any technical assistants needed. Variations Theatre Group will provide a stage manager for the festival, a general light plot designed by a lighting designer, and discounted rehearsal space if needed.

All submissions must be received by 5pm on Friday, March 29th, 2013.
