Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre (OKC Rep), an Actors’ Equity Association Category 1 Small Professional Theatre, is seeking submissions of previously unproduced plays, written explicitly for online communications platforms (Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, et al) in the following categories:

1. NEW VOICES: Playwrights between the ages of 18-26

• 50- to 80-minute plays that are written within the context of online communication;
• Plays can be two or more characters; each character will occupy a single window on screen. Monologues that exhibit innovative use of the form will be considered.

2. YOUNG AUDIENCES: Material to engage young audiences between the ages of 4-11

• 40- to 60-minute plays that are written within the context of online communication; 
• Plays can be two or more characters; each character will occupy a single window on screen. Monologues that exhibit innovative use of the form will be considered.
• Plays must be suitable and engaging for audiences between the ages of 4-11.

Selected play(s) will be produced as an online reading under the auspices of OKC Rep Theatre, and distributed to our audiences via social media. Plays selected for readings will be awarded a $250 honorarium. Selected plays may be considered for full production in a future season.

Lanesboro Artist Residency Program

The Lanesboro Artist Residency Program offers two or four week residencies to emerging artists driven to explore ways in which their work can be applied to the community and how Lanesboro’s rural community can inform their work.

The Lanesboro Artist Residency Program, located in Lanesboro, MN (pop. 754), is supported by the Jerome Foundation and aims to provide an immersive, meaningful experience for emerging artists from Minnesota and the five boroughs of New York City. The program is unique in that it provides an entire rural community and its myriad assets as a catalytic vehicle for engagement and artistic experimentation, with staff working with each resident to create a fully-customized residency experience.

Lanesboro Arts’ goal is to be flexible and accommodating to artists, allowing them access to local resources needed for conceptualizing and realizing their place-based work. Lanesboro Arts recognizes “place-based work” as work that is specifically inspired by and designed for the place in which the work takes place; it can be a new project, or an interpretation of the artist’s current work tailored to engage the community of Lanesboro. The residency program was designed to align with and amplify Lanesboro Arts’ vision for communities–especially rural communities–to embrace artists as economic drivers, culture bearers, community builders, and problem solvers. The application deadline for the 2021 Lanesboro Artist Residency Program is Friday, July 31, 2020 at 12 p.m. (noon) CST. The application will posted on or around April 1, 2020. Please check back. Jury review will take place in August and applicants will be notified by September 18, 2020 at the latest as to the status of their application. A phone interview process with finalists will take place in late September and selected artist residents and runners-up will be notified by October 5, 2020.

Artists must be legal residents of Minnesota or one of the five boroughs of New York City to be eligible to apply. EST/Youngblood is now accepting applications

EST/Youngblood is now accepting applications for membership beginning in the 2020-2021 season. 

Applications are open to New York City metro area resident playwrights under 30 years old. Membership includes attendance at all weekly meetings, monthly (or more frequent) performances, readings and retreats. Molecule accepts submissions of poetry, prose (fiction & non-fiction) plays, reviews and interviews in 50 words or less (including titles and interview questions). Visual artwork of tiny things like tea bags and toothpicks, or tiny paintings, also wanted: no skyscrapers please!

We have a strict word count. Don’t try and trick us we have tiny minds. All submissions should be previously unpublished work.

Theatrefolk Inc. is seeking one-act Middle School play submissions by 'Black, Indigenous, People of Color' (BIPOC) playwrights for immediate publication.

Our mission is to represent student voices and to let students know they are not alone. It has been made clear where we have succeeded and where we have failed in this pursuit. We want to do better and we want to start with Middle School plays.

It’s crucial that Middle School students know there are playwrights out there speaking directly to them and for them. A call for High School plays will be announced later in the year.

Submission Criteria

• Plays are between 25 and 35 minutes in length. 
• The majority of our customers at the Middle School level work on productions during class so the running time should fit within a class period.
• Plays have a majority of middle-school-aged characters. 
• We want to feature middle-school-aged voices.
• Plays are contemporary. 
• We want Middle School stories that take place today.
• Plays have simple staging requirements 
• Many of our customers need to do a lot with a little.
• Can your play be performed online? 

• Not a requirement. But we envision that plays that can be performed online or in a social distancing scenario may receive more productions.

• Playwrights may submit more than one play. 
• Plays cannot be under contract to another publisher. 
• Playwrights will be notified immediately about receipt of scripts and within 6 weeks regarding publication.

Notre Dame Performing Arts New Play Festival

Notre Dame College Performing Arts will host its annual National Playwriting Festival in November 2020, showcasing unproduced plays and musicals for young adults and children.

A national search has begun, looking for the best and most promising theatrical works relevant to young audiences today. The two-day festival will consist of 3-5 staged readings of previously unseen theatrical works, and will take place in the Regina Auditorium on the Notre Dame College campus.

A winner will be chosen through committee/audience voting and will receive a $500 prize, as well as the opportunity to present fully-staged production during the subsequent NDC Spring Semester.

The winner of the 2019 Notre Dame Performing Arts New Play Festival, "MIDNITE" by Rory Leahy and Rena Hardy, received its world premiere production February 2020.

Beginning March 15 of each year, the Notre Dame College New Play Festival will begin taking digital-copy submissions of new plays and musicals. The Director of Theatre will ensure the submitted materials follow specified criteria (see below) and will pass the play to 7-person panel who will judge the merits of each work.

All playwrights will be notified of the status of their submission in September and promotion about the chosen material will begin thereafter.

The festival will take place in late November.

The productions will be showcased in a reader’s theatre format open to the public. The winner will be chosen by the selection panel, with consideration given to an audience vote, and announced at a reception upon conclusion of the festival.

The winner of each season’s new Playwriting Festival will receive a fully-developed and produced show as part of the NDC Spring Semester.

A cash prize of $500 will be awarded to the winner dependent upon funding.

Criteria

- There is no submission fee for the Notre Dame College New Play Festival

- Submission deadline is July 15 of each year. Scripts received after that date will be considered the following year.

- 3-5 finalists will be selected on October 1 of that year and their names will be posted to the Notre Dame College website and social media platforms at that time.

- Must be a full-length play/musical for children or young adults without a prior production

- A brief synopsis must be sent together with a complete digital manuscript. Submission must include a contact phone number and e-mail address on the play’s title page. No hard-copy submissions will be accepted.

- The play must be at least 1 hour and no longer than 90 minutes.

- The play must be appropriate for audiences of all ages.

- Dramas, comedies and farces (with or without music) are welcome.

- Only ONE work per author may be submitted each year.

- Cast size limited to no less than 4 or more than 22.

- The plays selected will be acted by our student actors with a mix of regional artists where necessary. Plays that can be effectively cast within our market will be considered favorably.

- Playwrights who are questioning whether or not their play is a good match for the Notre Dame New Play Festival are strongly encouraged to contact Director of Theatre Pierre Brault at theatre@ndc.edu before submitting.

- All plays that are not selected for the festival will be held on file for 2 years.

- All qualifying submissions will be read by five to seven readers.

Be advised that the following are not considered qualifying submissions:

• Screenplays submitted as theatrical plays
• Plays with excessive profanity or violence or are inappropriate for youth audience members

Little Fish Theatre (San Pedro CA) is accepting scripts for our 19th Annual PICK OF THE VINE short play production to be presented in January-February 2021.

There will be a $75 flat fee royalty payment to playwrights per play produced. (or $25 flat fee royalty if presented virtually)

Submission Guidelines:

1. Submissions accepted starting June 1, 2020. Submission deadline is July 31, 2020.

The Dark Room is a place where writers take center stage and their work has a chance to grow. Held on the second Tuesday of every month, this ongoing event affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. The Dark Room offers a venue to workshop plays, novels, poems, or any other written work in a supportive, yet critical environment.

Writers – bring your work! Actors – come out and read!

Suggested donation of $5 is welcomed at the door, but not required.

If you are interested in being a featured writer at a future evening of The Dark Room, please send a 20-30 page script along with a short bio, cast requirements, descriptions of the characters, and a synopsis of the piece. Writers wishing to present during the open session portion of The Dark Room may submit shorter works, up to ten pages, in advance of the event or bring them on the night of the event.

We are seeking a full-length play that explores/utilizes/showcases non-western theatre tradition for our 2021-22 mainstage season.

While we continue to work hard to expand the diversity of our university, our student population is predominantly white. We are putting out a call for a play that is castable with our student demographic and performable without cultural appropriation, cultural erasure, or diversity tourism.

Additional considerations:

· Larger cast sizes (10 and up) are preferable.

· Plays that demand extravagant design or numerous set/costume changes may be challenging.

· Age appropriate roles – characters in their late teens – thirties – are preferable.

· We support and encourage submissions from queer writers, writers of color, and women, trans, and non-binary writers.

· We are open to all styles, including plays that require some ensemble input/devising and full-length plays comprising shorter pieces.

· Plays with music/musicals may be considered.

Logistics:

· The play will be included in our 2021-22 season (September – April).

o Pending the lifting of isolation mandates, state and University of North Carolina guidelines pertaining to large gatherings, and budget restrictions.

o Reserving the right to not choose from any submitted plays or to discuss an alternate time with the playwright.

· Playwrights will receive applicable royalties.
We are interested in negotiating the possibility of a campus visit and/or class presentations pending budgetary approval and further playwright discussion.

Theatre Three Offstage/Online seeks short plays

In an effort to present original content in a unique way, Theatre Three, is seeking short plays to be produced as part of a series of online works. Ideally, the pieces are written or re-conceived for an online platform. We hope that writers will see the constraints of the format as a way to tell stories in a different way.

The Plays:

• Should run 1 to 10 minutes.
• Should require no more than 6 actors.
• Should ideally be able to be performed without stage directions. (The scene may be set at the outset.)
• Will be rehearsed on Zoom or similar platform.
• Will be posted on Theatre Three’s website, Facebook page, and YouTube channel.

Playwrights may make multiple submissions. This is an open-ended project.

Selected works will received a $25 stipend; playwrights will retain all rights to future productions.

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting is seeking submissions from Black playwrights for the Harold Clurman Playwright-in-Residence program. This is a collaborative residency that is mutually beneficial to the mission of the studio and the playwright. Please note: this search focuses on professional or aspiring professional writers who work with the studio’s professional acting company (not students). We are seeking playwrights who:

– are in their early careers

– are unpublished

– have not yet had professional productions other than those using the Equity showcase code

– have a vested interest in working with the studio’s community of artists

– are interested in engaging in a discussion about how the studio can support and challenge their work

This is a merit-based residency search. We are particularly interested in diversity – diverse writers, voices, viewpoints, perspectives.

Completed applications must include a required online application form AND a full-length, polished but unpublished play (a full-length play is one that constitutes a full evening of theater; a 90-minute one act play is acceptable).

Please note that applicants who advance to the final round of consideration may be asked for a second work sample.

Applicants will be considered for the playwright-in-residence position as well as:

– participation in the First Breath New Play Reading Series

– potential collaboration in student actor-training workshops/productions
