From Picture to Performance
Are you a playwright between the ages of 12 and 19? Would you love to see your play produced in a stage reading at our upcoming playwrights festival? If you are, then this is the contest for you!

Submission Rules
Deadline: Plays must be submitted online by Friday, December 9, 2022.
Fees: There are NO fees for submitting your work to the Festival.
Eligibility: Playwrights must be between the ages of 12 -19 on March 24, 2023; co-written plays are allowed, provided all writers meet the age requirement.
Content: Original plays must be inspired from the art piece provided. This year’s art piece is Michael Angelo Hernandez’s Walk in My Shoes. The art inspiration may be literal or figurative, but the play must be related to the art piece.
Characters: Each play is limited to a maximum of 6 characters.
Length of Plays: Minimum 10 minutes, Maximum 50 minutes (Pages: Approximately 10 to 60 pages in length.)
Format: All plays must have a title page and numbered script pages. (Please see sample title page and script sample below.)
Submission Form: All applicants must submit an electronic submission form with: Play Title, Playwright(s) Name, Playwright(s) Email Address, Playwright(s) Phone Number, Playwright(s) Home Address, Playwright(s) Date of Birth with year, Age, School Name and Teacher (if applicable). The submission form can be found at the bottom of this section.
Notification: We will contact festival competition winners by January 31, 2023.
Festival Cash Prize: A cash prize of $200 for the top 3 plays will be awarded to the playwrights.
*Please note that $200 will be awarded for the play; if there are multiple playwrights for a winning play, the prize money will be shared between the winning playwrights of that play.
Stage Reading Performance: The three winning plays will be performed by professional actors as a staged reading at the Coachella Valley Festival for Young Playwrights on March 25 and 26, 2023.
Play Selection: All plays will be read and selected by a team of professional theatre artists.
