What is Flying Solo?

• Flying Solo is a festival of solo shows that doesn't charge participation or submissions fees. That's right - NO FEE - Cheaper and better than the rest. Seriously. 
• Flying Solo doesn't ask for any rights, royalties or residual payments 
• Flying Solo is presented in the Secret Theatre's 99 seat house. 
• We can accept shows that have premiered or even in workshop mode - apply first and we'll talk. We'll only refuse a show that has had prior run/show if we both feel its going be hard to get an audience. 
• Preferential consideration given to students of Go Solo or Flying Solo alumni 
• If your show is 'on book' or very short [20 mins or less] you may be invited to participate in a showcase show of multiple shows. 
• We supply all the basic production elements needed to support a new work – a stage, a small crew, box office and lobby staff, great sound and lights. 
• You supply a great show and invite audience members 
• We accept all shows from 10 minutes to 6o minutes 
• Finished 6o minute shows are offered either a stand alone or double bill slot. 
• Shows of longer than 30 and not more than 60 minute get one hour of tech per show. Shorter shows will be given a proportionate amount of tech time. Please note some tech rehearsals will be scheduled as daytimes according to availability. We strongly suggest that you prepare a prompt/cue script in advance. 
• Short shows of 20 mins or less are accepted but will be presented as part of a multi-show showcase. Up to 6 shows but tech requirements must be minimal due to the between show change over. 
• Dedicated Tech/Lighting person assigned for entire run/all shows. 
• If you are performing under a showcase you will apply to Equity as the producer. Please note Equity operate a waiver scheme that allows you to perform a solo show in NYC multiple times at different venues.

Please note that are several important changes to the festival submission guidelines and script format that must be followed, or the scripts will not be considered for the festival.

Please read and follow all of the guidelines listed below:

• Each script must have a running time of seven to fourteen minutes
• Only original scripts allowed

End of the Road New Short Play Festival and Beach Party

South Baldwin Community Theatre of Gulf Shores, Alabama is seeking submissions for the second annual "End of the Road New Short Play Festival and Beach Party." The Play Festival will be held July 15, 16 and 17, 2016 in Gulf Shores Alabama located on the Gulf of Mexico. It will consist of three fully-staged daily readings of the ten winning ten-minute plays. Attendance by the playwright is required for authors of winning scripts. Plays should not exceed 10 minutes in length and should be appropriate for a family-friendly theatre. A $100.00 prize will be awarded to the overall winner as well as a $25.00 audience favorite prize. The weekend will include an opening night beach party reception and three talk-backs with the authors.

The mission of Pride Films & Plays' LezPlay Contest is to enhance the visibility and advance the viability of lesbian-centered stories for stage and screen. To that end, LezPlay honors excellence in storytelling by women-identified writers who present lesbian characters and themes—past, present, and future—in a pivotal, positive way.

**The LezPlay Contest is open to playwrights and screenwriters who identify as women.**

We want stories that elevate and celebrate us, refine and redefine us. We want to introduce audiences to writers whose work reflects, resonates with, and is relevant to their lives. We want stories that have a broad appeal, stories that will enable us to reach individuals of all ages and in all stages of life.

From March 1 to April 30, 2016, we welcome submissions of short scripts (up to 45 pages) and full-length scripts (up to 120 pages) from writers who identify as women. Only scripts that have not been professionally produced are eligible. Scripts that have been submitted in the past are ineligible for resubmission.

Scripts will be judged by a panel of industry professionals: directors, artistic directors, filmmakers, playwrights, producers, literary managers, activists, educators, comediennes.

**When submitting, please be sure that there is NO identifying information included anywhere on your script. Scripts that identify the writer on the title page or anywhere else in the document will immediately be disqualified.**

**To enter LezPlay, complete the entry form. You will receive an email from LezPlay's Literary Manager Allison Fradkin confirming receipt of your submission.**

**Entry fee is $15 if script is received by March 31. Entry fee is $30 if script is received by April 30. To make the final deadline, scripts must be received by 11:59 pm Central Time on April 30, 2016.**

**Dramatists Guild members can submit one script exempt from the entry fee by using the code DG2016 on the payment page.**

Awards & Prizes

Ten semi-finalists will be selected from all script entries. We will then name five finalists. The scripts that make the finals will be those that receive the highest recommendation from our reading panel and that best align with the mission of LezPlay.

The five finalists’ scripts will be presented as staged readings during LezPlay Weekend, which will take place in Chicago, Illinois, September 9-11, 2016. Writers whose work is selected for presentation will earn a cash prize: $400 for full-length scripts, $100 for shorts. In addition, stage play finalists' work will be considered for a full production with PFP. Both playwrights and screenwriters who make the finals are invited to join us in Chicago for up to 10 hours of rehearsal with PFP Company Members to refine their scripts prior to and during the staged reading.

SCHEDULE & SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Submitted short plays must be less than 15 minutes long, centered on the theme “paradox”.

Submissions that have been previously produced WILL NOT be accepted.

Only one submission per author will be accepted.

Eight finalists will be chosen by a panel of readers. Reading will be blind, so AUTHOR NAME and other author information are not to be included anywhere on the play. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

SUBMIT one PDF with only the PLAY TITLE and name the file “your play title / blind”. And submit another PDF with your full title page and name the file “your play title.”

Pagination should begin on page 1 of the text. Please include name of play on each page.

Please submit in pdf format by EMAIL.

Please use no more than 6 characters in your play.

Please be aware that selected plays will be staged with minimal sets, props, costumes, lights and sound.

The eight selected plays will be assigned a director who will best present the work, and the director will cast appropriately..

The eight finalists have the chance to compete for an audience “peoples’ choice” award as well as judges’ awards.

Lastly, we are a community theater, so please no X-rated scripts. We simply can’t perform them for our audiences.

2015-2016 Science Playwriting Competition – CALL FOR PLAYS

The Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, in its ongoing mission to explore the intersection science and art, announces a CALL FOR PLAYS for the 2015-16 SBU Science Playwriting Competition. The event is made possible by the generous support of the Simons Center, the C. N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the SBU Department of Theatre Arts.

Calling all talented playwrights with an interest in the sciences, and talented scientists with an interest in the theatre to compose a ten-minute play with a substantial science component. This contest is open to the general public:

Bringing science and theatre together can provide the inspiration for a play of exceptional artistic merit and lead to exciting new ways of learning about science. Indeed, we believe the best science plays can be great works of art because of the science they contain and great educational tools because of their artistic value. We are recruiting Stony Brook University’™s brightest minds to write great plays that make science accessible to a wide audience.

ENTRIES MAY BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY BELOW. ALL submissions must be received by midnight April 1, 2016.

A public staged reading of the winning entries will be performed during the Fall 2016 semester at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics.

Guidelines:

P73 Playwriting Fellowship

The P73 Playwriting Fellowship provides a year of comprehensive support to one early-career playwright who has not received a professional production in New York City (please see eligibility requirements below). Through this program, Page 73 provides artistic and financial resources to this writer as he or she develops one or more new plays of his or her choosing. The P73 Playwriting Fellow receives an unrestricted award of $10,000 and a development budget, managed by Page 73 and the Fellow over the course of the Fellowship year, up to an additional $10,000.

The Fellow is encouraged to think creatively about using Fellowship resources to meet concrete goals that might not otherwise be possible. These goals may include, but are not limited to, development of one or more new plays, assistance in building relationships within the New York City theater community, research, and/or travel. Please note that funds from the P73 Playwriting Fellowship do not cover full-scale productions, nor does Page 73 commit to producing the work of the Fellow. The Fellowship incorporates at least one public presentation by the Fellow. Page 73 also helps the Fellow identify and connect with collaborators, including directors, designers, actors and dramaturgs, for Fellowship projects.

The Fellow is associated with Page 73 for the calendar year, from January 1 to December 31. After being selected, he or she works with Page 73’s staff to develop a plan for the year and establish a timeline for the development work to be done on the new play or plays. The Fellow may also be invited to participate in the Page 73 Summer Residency and, if eligible, Interstate 73 (described below) during the Fellowship year.

If the Fellow is not a New York City resident, he or she must be prepared to travel to New York during the Fellowship year in order to fully engage in the opportunities that the Fellowship provides.

Submissions must be between 30 and 90 minutes long.

Submission Rules

In order to submit a play please send the following via email:
1. A 100 word synopsis of the play
2. The complete script + character breakdown
3. Your telephone number and home address, plus the phone number of one other person in your production that we can contact
4. Your bio
5. All genres of shows are welcome to submit to our festivals.
6. Shows that have already been staged can also participate as long as the run was BEFORE 2014 and will participate in Venus/Adonis with AN ENTIRELY NEW CAST AND CREW.

As soon as your play is accepted, you will be sent the festival guidelines. All plays will be given a three-performance run at the theater.

Prizes
After all plays have had their three-performance run, the best 6 plays will be selected by the jury as nominees for the $3,500 prize of Best Play.
In Addition to the Best Play there will also be several nominations:

Best actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best singers will all receive each $500.
Best Musical Score $300. Best Original play , Stage manager and Set Designer will
all receive each $200

Winners will be announced during a special prize ceremony at the end of the festival to which the cast and crew of all nominated productions will be invited.

If your play/musical is accepted in our festival there is a payment of $250 to participate.

The Relentless Award

The Relentless Award, established in honor of Philip Seymour Hoffman and his pursuit of truth in the theater, is the largest annual cash prize in American theater awarded to a playwright in recognition of a new play.

What we are looking for:

• Plays that are challenging.

• Plays that exhibit fearlessness.

• Plays that are not mainstream.

• Plays that exude passion.

• Plays that are relentlessly truthful.

The American Playwriting Foundation encourages submissions by first time playwrights, women and playwrights of color.

Prize:

• The author of the Relentless Award-winning play will receive $45,000.

• The winning playwright will have the option to have the winning play published by the Dramatists Play Service.

• The winning playwright will have a week-long residency at SPACE on Ryder Farm, an artist residency program housed on a working organic farm in Brewster, New York. The author can elect to have a director, a dramaturg and actors join him or her while in residence on the farm.

• The selected play will have a national roll-out through the Ed Vassallo Relentless Reading Series, established to help bring to life and develop the winning play by presenting a series of staged readings at some of the top theaters across the United States.

• When the winning play is selected, three runners-up will also be named.

Submissions will be accepted from March 1, 2016 through May 2, 2016. Submissions must be sent via this website by 11:59pm EST, May 2, 2016.

Eligibility/Criteria for Submission:

• Any unproduced play written by a United States citizen or permanent resident (green card holder) is eligible for The Relentless Award.

• Each play must be submitted with a letter from a theater professional recommending the play. “Theater Professional” is defined as anyone who has worked in theater in any artistic capacity for a minimum of four years.

• Plays with a producer, producing organization or theater attached are not eligible.

• As much as we love them, one-act plays, musicals and plays for children are not eligible.

• The author must be at least 21 years old.

How to submit your play:

Use the form below to submit your play and accompanying letter of recommendation to The American Playwriting Foundation.

• NOTE: please DO NOT have your name or other identifying info (email/phone number) on any of your manuscript pages. Please also exclude agent info, development info, and dedications. This will preserve the author's anonymity for the judges.

• Please provide your script file in pdf (rather than Word documents), with the title format: TITLE OF PLAY.pdf. Do not include your name in the file script title.

• You'll receive confirmation that your script and accompanying materials have been received. As submissions are processed manually, please allow up to two weeks to receive this confirmation.

Radio Theater Project Submissions

Call for Plays That Work Without Visuals

If you've got a script where the story depends on dialogue instead of visuals, The Radio Theatre Project in St. Petersburg FL performs new works written for radio and many stage plays adapted for audio.

Selected plays are performed for a standing-room only crowd in downtown St. Pete, with professional actors on book and a sound effects artist. Recordings are distributed via podcast and writers receive a stipend of $50 when the script is performed.

Short plays are very welcome. Full-length plays will need to be condensed to one hour with an intermission. Stage plays can be submitted as-is for consideration, though if selected some adaptation may be necessary.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR RTP SCRIPTS

• Plays should have a running time of 50 minutes or less. Brevity is the soul of.
• Plays longer than 30 minutes will need to be able to be split in two parts with an intermission.
• Plays that originated as stage, film or prose are fine, but we produce radio theater – works originating in other forms will need to be adapted for radio.
• The Radio Theatre Project reserves the right to make any edits necessary for length, clarity or FCC regulations. We’ll suggest those to you, if your script is being considered for production.
• Florida writers and plays with Florida settings and subject matter are always welcome.

REQUIREMENTS

• Please include a cover sheet with title, name of author and contact information.
• On the second page, please include a plot summary and brief bio of the author.
• Please submit scripts in 12-point type with page numbers in the upper right-hand corner.
• Think about sound and sound effects.
• The scripts will be broadcast, so FCC language restrictions apply—no seven deadly words, obscenity, overt sex or graphic bodily functions.
• Before your script is produced, you will need to put it into radio play format – see guidelines here.

TIPS

• Any action must be made clear by dialogue and sound effects.
• Characters should be identified frequently by name, and there can’t be too many characters in the same scene. If characters aren’t part of the conversation, they disappear.

A Chicago based, non-Equity festival, Something Marvelous seeks production ready full length scripts for upcoming seasons. Something Marvelous produces scripts in the genre of magical realism; works must feature non-realistic events or circumstances in an otherwise realistic world. Please note that we are specifically looking for scripts geared toward an adult audience, rather than a youth audience; both premieres and already-produced works are welcome.

19th Annual Festival of Originals at Theatre Southwest

Each playwright may submit up to 2 plays for consideration.

All entries should be previously unpublished and unproduced in the Houston area.

All Genres are accepted.

Monologues or One Actor plays are not accepted.

Plays should be 20 minutes in length (give or take a minute or two). Page count should be no less than 17, but no more than 22 pages.

There is no maximum limit of characters or sets, but common sense should be used as 5 plays will be produced in one evening.

Number all pages of the scripts, and scripts should be securely bound or stapled in the upper left hand corner.

Scripts must be submitted by postal mail ONLY. Emailed PDF or Word files will not be considered.

Be sure to include your contact information; phone number, email, and mailing address on the title page of the script.

List all characters with a brief character description.

Please include a one paragraph synopsis of the play.

Make sure all mailed entries are POSTMARKED by March 31, 2016

Scripts cannot be returned.

One hundred dollars will be paid to all playwrights selected for production.

Who Should Apply?

Residencies are open to university or think-thank based academics in all disciplines, literary artists, visual artists, and practitioners from a variety of fields, particularly those working on socially impactful endeavors. The Foundation seeks to promote a broad, stimulating mix of disciplines and fields within the Bellagio Community.

The Academic Writing residency is for university and think tank-based academics, researchers, professors, and scientists working in any discipline. Successful applicants can either demonstrate decades of significant professional contributions to their field or show evidence of being on a strong upward trajectory in their careers.

The Bellagio Arts & Literary Arts residency is for artists working in any discipline including composers, fiction and non-fiction writers, playwrights, poets, video/filmmakers, and visual artists who share in the Foundation's mission of promoting the well-being of humankind and whose work is inspired by or relates to global or social issues.
