The Lake Macquarie One Act Play Festival returns to Warners Bay Theatre (New South Wales, Australia) on Saturday 28 March 2026.
The Lake Macquarie One Act Play Festival is a theatre competition showcasing short, sharp and exhilarating one-act plays from Lake Macquarie and beyond.
The Festival aims to bring together local, state and national playwrights and performers to develop and strengthen the skills and experience of performing artists within Lake Macquarie.
Featuring plays that explore our society through story and performance, the Festival will bring the best of established and amateur theatre to the Lake Macquarie stage.

The One Act Play Festival is held in a competition format, with a total prize pool of $1900 awarded to the following categories:

Prizes
The One Act Play Festival is held in a competition format, with a total prize pool of $1900 awarded to the following categories:
- Winner Outstanding Play Performance - $500
- Runner Up Outstanding Play Performance - $300
- Winner Outstanding Actor - $500
- Runner Up Outstanding Actor - $300
- Winner Youth Actor Encouragement - $300
Call for entries
Entries are now open for all to apply. Applications are encouraged from established and amateur artists, including independent theatre artists, writers, directors, schools, TAFE or University students and theatre groups both locally and nationally
Script submissions for the 2026 Festival will open on 8 October 2025 and will close on the 13 November 2025.
How to Enter
- The entry into the Festival is free.
- Entries will be accepted only if submitted online using the official entry form.
- Extension of the closing date or acceptance of late entries for the One Act Play Festival will be only at the event sponsors discretion.
- No entries will be accepted if delivered by hand, email or post.
- Entrants requiring support to complete the entry form must contact Council staff by phone or email theatres@lakemac.nsw.gov.au by 12 noon AEST, 13 November 2025.
