Amphibian Stage honors the Indigenous People of this nation who, for generations, were the stewards of our lands. We respectfully acknowledge that our theatre resides on the ancestral home of the Comanche, Wichita and Kickapoo People.
We’re currently accepting plays for our next SparkFest. In 2025, SparkFest, Amphibian Stage’s annual performing arts festival, will celebrate Native Americans and peoples indigenous to Turtle Island (or the North American continent) and Hawai’i.

We are seeking plays specifically by US-based Native American and Indigenous playwrights. Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawai’ian, Indigenous peoples of Mexico, and First Nations playwrights authorized to work in the U.S. are invited to apply.

Three selected playwrights will receive a 20 hour development workshop followed by 2 staged readings at Amphibian Stage. Rehearsal and readings of the three selected plays will take place between June 14-22, 2025 (exact schedule is TBD). Playwrights will receive a professional stipend of $500 each, plus airfare and housing during the development time in Fort Worth.
Eligibility Requirements:
- You are a playwright who identifies as Indigenous to Turtle Island or Hawai’i. Plays by Native American, Native Alaskan, Native Hawai’ian, Indigenous peoples of Mexico, and First Nations playwrights authorized to work in the US will be considered.
- You must still be developing and working on the script.
- You must be available to join us for SparkFest 2025 during the development week between June 14-22, 2025 (exact schedule is TBD).
- The play may not have had more than one fully-staged production.
- Your work is full-length. Plays will be prioritized. Musicals with a cast size of 6 or less will be considered. Musicals must be able to be accompanied by piano only and/or provide their own tracks for the development week.
- Only one script per playwright.
- The playwright must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
