SMALL BITES ~ holiday entertainment for the Bars & Cafes
Unity Stage Company (www.unitystage.org) is calling for explosive original short plays to be presented in bars and cafes as part of a traveling neighborhood festival in Western Queens, NY. Each play should be the theatrical equivalent of a jolt of double-espresso or a knocked-back shot of whiskey. No cozy plays please! Your comedy or drama should focus on a turning point in the characters’ relationships taking place at a specific holiday time. Each play will perform multiple times (TBD), and feature paid non-Equity NYC actors ages 18 to 81.
If Covid-19 restrictions prohibit in-person entertainment, Unity Stage Company will pivot to present the plays as part of a virtual event available for viewing online. All plays must meet the following requirements:
· Running time must be no longer than 10 minutes. Plays longer than 10 pages will not be considered. New, unproduced plays only. Previous readings/workshops are okay.
· Plays must be set in a café or bar and require minimal set and props.
· Play submissions must be sent as anonymous script in PDF format. Page 1 should include Title, Character Breakdown, and brief synopsis, but NOT playwright’s name to better facilitate blind readings.
· Scripts must be double-spaced and use Calibri 12 or Times New Roman 12 fonts.
· Please include separate Playwright Resume in PDF format with contact information. Include details re: all previous readings or workshops.
· Playwrights may submit more than one play.

Deadline: Plays may be submitted beginning immediately through June 18, 2021. Playwrights will be notified of their selection no later than August 1, 2021.
Each selected holiday play will be performed a minimum of two times at a bar or café in Western Queens, NY. , during the months of October, November, or December. Each play will receive a $50 honorarium and playwright interviews will be included in P.R. outreach.
