The Actors Studio of Newburyport, MA is dedicated to New Play Development and will be holding its third annual Short Play Festival for two weekends, and six performances, in October, 2020.
The Submission window opens on January 1, 2020 and closes on March 1, 2020, or until
250 plays have been received, whichever occurs first.
Our judges will participate in multiple rounds of reading and after 24 semi-finalists are chosen, we will hold an All-Day Selection Sunday, putting all 24 semi-finalists on their feet. The eight winners will be announced in August 2020, with he top-scoring play receiving the coveted Clopton Prize.
Length: 5-15 minutes. Send us your best. There is no theme and no restrictions on content. Workshops, readings, and one or two previous productions are okay.
Limit: One play per playwright. There is no fee to submit though we request a (non-mandatory) $5.00 donation per submission. TASN is non-profit and your tax deductible donation will be used to help defray the cost of producing this Festival which is dedicated to the development of New Work.
Submitting is a two-step process.
First, snail-mail your title page, contact info, and your optional donation (made payable) to The Actors Studio of Newburyport, The Tannery, Mill #1, Suite 5, Newburyport, MA, 01950.
Second, email a PDF of your blind script to TASNShortPlayFest @gmail.com . (PDF’s only) No identifying information on your script as we want to ensure anonymity during the judging process. Only after selecting the finalists will the identity of the winners be revealed.
TASN is an award-winning 50 seat black box in historic Newburyport, Massachusetts. This Festival will be sponsored by our Weekend Writers Workshop who collectively have been produced at more than 200 venues around the country.
This Short Play Festival is brought to you by playwrights, for playwrights, and will be directed
