MFA in Playwriting at Queens College-The City University of New York

The Queens College MFA Program in Playwriting is designed to provide playwrights with classes and performance opportunities that will prepare them for careers in New York and national theatre.

The program is housed within the English Department’s MFA Program in Creative Writing and Literary Translation, insuring that student playwrights will benefit from being part of an interdisciplinary community of writers working on poetry, prose, translation and creative nonfiction.

Our program is allied with Manhattan’s renowned and vibrant theatre INTAR, which provides professional staged readings of student plays, as does nearby Queens Theatre. Acting students from the college's Department of Drama, Theatre and Dance contribute their talents to our playwriting workshop classes.

Our program is both nurturing and rigorous, and we are committed to mentoring our students.

Playwrights who have visited QC in the recent past include: David Henry Hwang, Richard Dresser, John Guare, Kia Corthron, Lisa Kron and Doug Wright.

Applications for entry in fall 2020 will be accepted until February 15.
