ALab Theater Festival is a home for bold, exciting new work by both emerging and established performing artists. Our mission is to provide free resources and a safe performance space where theater artists can present new work to audiences at accessible prices. To date, we’ve programmed 25 performance groups across two festivals, presenting 50 total performances and supporting more than 220 artists.
This Summer's Festival will run from June 23rd to July 5th at The IRT Theater, 154 Christopher St, New York, NY. The performance space is a small, but versatile 33-seat proscenium black box with a full repertory lighting plot, sound system, and projector.
All programmed work will receive at least 4-6 hours of tech time, but there is no additional rehearsal time in the theater granted. Because many shows may be programmed in a single day, your show MUST have combined load-in/load-out times of under 75 minutes. Permanent set pieces are not permitted. Please keep these limitations in mind as you apply!

LEAD ARTIST COMMITMENTS
- Attending any/all mandatory meetings (initial one-on-one check ins, a technical production meeting, and a space tour)
- Promoting your performances to your communities! ALab runs because of the support from our wonderful, diverse audiences.
- Adhering to the tech/performance schedules provided by the ALab Team.
- Sourcing your own designers (lighting and sound) and a stage manager to run cues
- Staying in constant communication with us and our wonderful Lead Producer (and miracle worker) Blaise Hewlett
