Join award-winning playwright Aaron Ricciardi for a yearlong journey into the art of playwriting culminating in the completion of your own full-length play — a rigorous, immersive online workshop like none other.
Perhaps you’ve written plays before. Perhaps you’ve started a play and then stalled out. Perhaps you’ve never written a play but have always wanted to. However you come to the art form, join Aaron and the 92nd Street Y to fully invest in the rigorous, messy, thrilling process that is the creation of a new play.
Spend a year immersed in a playwright’s most precious resource — other attentive writers, invested in one another’s creative growth — under the close instruction and mentorship of playwright, musical theater writer and teacher Aaron Ricciardi. Investigate your core storytelling impulses and expand your theatrical imaginations to discover what kinds of stories you need to tell on stage.
Guided by generative writing exercises and readings for the first half of the course, your own projects and processes dictate your path in the second half of the year. Build your new play from the ground up and learn the art of plot, style, structure and much more.
The class will meet online 40 times over the course of the year, for three-hour online sessions, culminating in a celebratory in-person reading of scenes from your new plays. There will be a virtual component for those unable to make it to NYC.
Class starts Sep 10. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3SAnLQt
