Spectrum Theatre Ensemble (STE), in partnership with The Epic Players, is seeking scripts from neurodivergent playwrights for consideration as part of the 2021 Neurodiversity New Play Festival (NNPF). As a part of the NNPF, the Neurodivergent Playwright Initiative will consist of a combination of virtual and in-person readings to be held in July and August of 2021.
CRITERIA:
- Submissions must be by a playwright who is neurodivergent.
- Scripts can be for a 10-minute or one-act play.
- Scripts should be no longer than 50 pages.
- Scripts must be previously unproduced. (Readings and workshops are acceptable)
- Cast size should be no larger than 10.
PLEASE NOTE:
At this moment, we cannot accept screenplays or musicals.
Theater Scripts For Young Audiences are acceptable submissions.
We prefer submissions in standard playwriting format, but it is not a requirement.
There is no submission fee.
Neurodivergence can encompass, but is not limited to, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Epilepsy, SPD, Developmental Language Disorder, BPD, Tourette’s and Tic Disorders, and Intellectual Disabilities.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for stories told through a neurodivergent lens. Submissions do not need to revolve around themes of neurodivergence explicitly.
We are looking for stories and plays encompassing the broad spectrum of neurodivergent experiences. We are especially reaching out and encouraging submissions from BIPOC, female, non-binary, and LGBTQA+ playwrights.
Submissions will be accepted until May 8, 2021.
Selected playwrights will be notified by June 4, 2021.
Selected playwrights will be offered a $100 honorarium, the option to participate in the rehearsal process, and their work will be considered for a full production in future STE seasons.
