Summer 2020 online classes at Primary Stages ESPA are now open for enrollment! Here are just some of the classes in our lineup of opportunities in the writing department:

Fundamentals of Playwriting

Instructor: Mêlisa Annis (Writer, Director, Dramaturg; Faculty, NYU Tisch)

Build a toolbox of the fundamentals, so your first play (and each play you write after that!) can be built on a strong foundation.

Play On - Finding Your First Draft

Instructor: Rogelio Martinez (Writer, Ping Pong at The Public)

Use writing exercises to find your joy in writing, letting the new material they create surprise you.

The First Draft

This class will guide you through the development of your first draft, providing concrete deadlines, constructive feedback, and a collaborative environment to get your ideas on the page.

Rewriting Your Draft

Instructors:

As soon as you finish your last line of dialogue, the need for rewrites begins. This class will help you tackle the revision process and develop a stronger version of your play.

Comedy Writing

Study the specialized set of rules for comedy to shape your ideas, structure your plot, develop believable characters, and write witty dialogue.

10-Minute Plays and One Acts

Learn to distill a compelling story into the shortest possible dramatic form, think outside of the box of structure, and have some fun.

The Artistic Statement
