If you are interested in submitting a play to ALIDP 2020, please check out the guidelines below.
You’re invited to submit a short-form play to be included in the 5th annual A Light in Dark Places: A Collection of Plays for Hope in accordance with National Suicide Prevention Month.
Selected plays will receive a six-performance run and a $75 prize.
Performances will be the weekends of Sept. 11th-13th & Sept. 18th-20th at the Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre – Los Angeles in Hollywood.
ALIDP is a non-profit that using the arts to bring understanding, resources and hope to those affected by suicide. The plays are to explore themes of suicide prevention and mental health conditions with a focus on community, connection, hope, resources and healing.
Please DO NOT submit any plays that depict the act or glorify suicide, as that is not in accordance with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s safe messaging guidelines.
Up to six plays will be selected from the submissions. A standard option agreement contract will be expected to be signed by both parties upon selection.
Selections will be announced no later than May 15th, directors will then be assigned, and casting will commence in August. A four-week rehearsal period is expected.
To apply, playwrights must submit an original 5 to 15 page, double-spaced script via email to: submit@alightindarkplaces.org. Please include name, address and how you heard about us.
Submission fee will be waived for all applications received by 11:59pm PST, Friday March 13th.
Submissions received between 12am PST, Saturday March 14th and 11:59pm PST, Friday May 1st will be asked to pay a $20 fee at www.alightindarkplaces.org/shop/submit
